We made it back from THE MOJAVE ROAD. It was an adventure as always and we made it through without much difficulty. Crossing Soda Lake was an adventure in slick sideways driving but as long as you stay on the throttle you will make it through. One F150 in our group even made it in two wheel drive just to see if he could. It was a bit cold and breezy at night but all in all a good time had by all. Good luck guys.

It will be just me as the Other Guy had Family members show up for Christmas, I was thinking Soda lake and the water crossing will be my Two biggest Obstacles, Guess I was right. Thanks

So we'll also be headed out to the Road close to New Years with a group of 5 rigs. I'm curious whether or not Caruther's Canyon is a viable spot to camp on the first night if you stop at both Fort Piute and Picture Canyon (doing the shorter 2 miles hike)...if you're starting from the Colorado River?

Can anyone provide advice on that? I think our plan is 3 full days, 2 nights...but wondering if that's too short of a time.

That is the way we did it. Friday morning started at 8:oo am from the AVI and finished up Sunday about 2:00 pm. Caruther's canyon is nice and we have camped there but it is a good ways off the Mojave Road and can cost valuable time...

We stayed there when we did the trail in March. A few beautiful campsites and great hiking along a creek up into the New York mountains. Highly recommended.

Oh.. but be prepared to do a bit of camp cleanup. Joey and I pulled about 1 full bag of litter (including some old ass diapers, yuck) out of there. Still recommended.

I will never cross soda lake when its muddy again. Did have fun driving full throttle and being sideways with a trailer most of the crossing. My issue is the high alkali in the mud. I was finding rust in areas I didn't know could rust. It actually ate through the paint under my rear bumper.
If I ran the route alone, I would bypass it if its wet anyway.

The Weather is going to Turn to Sh?t, We are going to go out anyway Leaving Today around 1:00pm from the AVI Stay at Balancing Rock and if the weather Turns bad Overnight we can Change directions go to Death Valley or continue along Mojave Road
I have to Be home around 1pm Thursday for work,

Our Mojave Road trip on dec 12-15 went well. a few wet spots early and Soda Lake was wet and slick but we made it through without any problem.

We are Back at the Avi Casino - KOA Campground, Glad that David cancelled, We had a Few last minute Changes. We left Monday December 23rd about 1:30 - was supposed to Leave the 24th at 10am - Planned on Being out till the 28th - Had to be back on the 26th, I expected most people to take the 24th - 27th off but instead most of my Customers our open and Working and so am I, Dammit

From The Casino to Ft Piute the road was in great Shape, Couple little places going into the washes to watch for but Nothing serious at all to worry about was a lot of fun, Get to Balancing Rock Early if you Plan to Camp there at 2:30 it was busy so we moved onto Ft Piute and Camped there and was all alone was Perfect,
From Fort Piute to Piute Corral was in great shape also Considering the rain.
From Piute Corral to the Penny Can's the Road was in great shape Nothing to worry about
we went around Watson wash, The Rock House had more mud in the Parking lot than the trail did
From the Rock House to Camp Mojave it was a Little Muddy in places and some water on the Road Mostly puddles but nothing to be Concerned with, The woops were dry looks like it has not rained in weeks there,
from Camp Mojave to the mailbox was dry and the Road was in good shape.
We went to the Lave Tube's be ready for Washboard from beginning to end,
we saw 4 Vehicles Mon, Tues, and we saw 11 Just on the road to and From the lave tubes,
This is where we left the Mojave Road

Next 2020 at Christmas I'll plan another trip
