I was pleasantly surprised to see the breathers were up and out of the way. I'd bet yours are as well.

The location of that rear breather while much better would still have me slightly concerned. I wouldn't worry about it during the trip but I would make sure to go ahead and check the gear oil for any water when I got home. Just my ¢2

Cleaning out the inside of the truck now, doing brakes on it Next weekend. I am so stoked for this trip. Reading through some stuff I am seeing two bundles of firewood as a suggested minimum. That is fine, my other question.. I have a propane fire pit I usually bring along... Does anyone think this will be necessary? If not I will leave it as home as it takes up a decent amount of space.

Hey Scott, this is a great question and a good time to bring it up.

The rules within the Preserve are that fires are allowed, I will check with the Ranger to confirm if there are any restriction.

However, one thing the Rules / Regs mention is that for Primitive or Dispersed camping, no new fire rings are allowed, you can use either existing rock or steel fire rings.
And, for this many people, and you know how much you enjoy a good fire, there are not enough fire rings to go around, almost anywhere we'll camp.

So, by all means, bring your portable fire pits, whatever they are. Propane, washer tubs, etc., those are all legitimate ways to enjoy a good fire in your camp.

Another thing worth mentioning is that any coals that remain must be packed out, and any wood that you brought must be taken with you.
In other words, don't think you're being a nice guy by leaving some wood for the next camper, that is specifically mentioned that it must be removed.
And it goes without saying that fires must be completely dead before leaving.

I did mention for everyone to bring two bundles of wood. You might be packing some or all of it back out, but at least if we find a good fire ring, we can have a ripping good fire that all can enjoy.

Is there a timeframe for when we will know who is going and who is out? If I am privileged enough to go, I want to make plans on what to do/where to go from Sunday on, since it is my Spring break!

Cheers

Hey Dan,
I just saw your post and got a hold of @devincorcoran and I think we'll both be joining in on the fun. We'll both be taking our trucks. We're both from NorCal and this'll be our first OB trip for both of us. Really looking forward to meeting everybody!

Great info Dan. I will bring my propane fire pit and will have 40 lbs of propane to run all my propane fueled stuff. I'll also bring plenty of wood.

Hey @Cavo, sorry for not being clear.
Everyone that has paid their $10 so far has a spot on this trip. I haven't checked this morning but I think there are just a few spots remaining til we hit the 40 limit.

IOW, if you've paid, start packing!

I will publish rendezvous points for all participants pretty soon, as well as other key information we'll need.

Hi all, Cliff here.

I was thinking that there seems to be quite a few people coming from places far to the North, NorCal, Oregon, WA?. And was thinking that if anyone would like to start out on Wednesday and make a stop-over here in Victorville Wednesday night, I have two guest rooms (with 2 twin beds in each). Then on Thursday it is a leisurely 3 hours drive (186 miles) to the Avi casino Anyone interested?

Hello again, OB Friends! I thought I'd give a quick weather update. Here in the Mohave Valley it's been sitting around the mid 90's during the daytime, with lows in the low-to-mid 60's at night. It looks like it may drop back into the 80's next week, however I'd just remain vigilant, as the weather here can go from hot to really hot in the course of a day.

I still wish I could come with y'all, however I'll likely be hard at work (perhaps nearing the end of the work day, even) when you guys depart on Friday 3/24. I hope it goes well for y'all!
Hopefully I'll catch the next OB Mojave Road trip!
Cheers!

Thanks for the update @BigTuna117 , I'm hoping it won't get too crazy hot by then and the flowers will still be out!

More good news! Daylight Savings! That's right,we've become so used to the short days that it will be a welcome change to 12 hours of daylight, nominally 7AM to 7PM!

That will give us a good amount of time to get where we want to go and set up a solid camp.

Fun fact: you might be wondering why @BigTuna117 lives in "Fort Mohave" but we're going to "Mojave Road"?!
The only thing I could find on it is that in Arizona, it's spelled with an "H", in California it's spelled with a "J".
Not sure which one is correct. I suppose that depends on which state you live in too.

It's actually curious. Most of the Locals spell it as Mojave, however it is on the maps as Mohave. If you go by what the natives say, Mojave is correct. It just confuses the hell outta USPS/FedEx/UPS/DHL when you put Fort Mojave, AZ
I believe it's on the map as Fort Mohave and Mohave Valley, AZ to differentiate it from Mojave, CA.

Cabo - we are headed out early on Thursday or maybe on Wednesday afternoon with a stop over. Safe driving - perhaps a caravan back on Sunday?
