Hi, My name is Matt! I have loved camping my whole life, but backpacking with kids is hard, and my wife does not enjoy backcountry camping out of a pack. I have been missing the outdoors, and realized that there is more than one way to get my family into the outdoors, and it doesn't involve tiny backpacks and tired legs, or crowded campgrounds full of giant motorhomes! I just bought my very first 4x4 vehicle and am beyond excited to join this community and learn from everyone here.

- We live in Powhatan Virginia, just southwest of Richmond.
- I have a brand new to me 2016 Toyota 4Runner Trail, and I can't wait to mod the hell out of it.
- I have literally been camping my whole life, but never in this way, so I am a very eager noob.

Finally moved back to Sun Valley, ID and got myself a new rig to adventure with!

Near Future Mods:

I'm a novice to the whole overlanding thing. I've never modified any of my vehicles, until very recently. Gone out several trails in my area and plan on exploring more and more! Especially when I get my tent!

Hey All,
Calling home Long Beach CA with my stock 2019 4Runner Off Road purchased about 30 days ago. Been riding side by sides and dirt bikes for years but in a full sized vehicle, novice is the word.
If you can call them that, mods this year are full roof rack and a hard shell tent to get the ball rolling.
Next year or two would be a winch and suspension system. When that time comes I'll likely check back here to see what the community has done.


I have been doing alot of noodling around on the interweb over the last year and found OB.
"Adventure is Necessary!" are the words and Michael and Corrie are the people that drew me to being a member.
Looking forward to the future.

Glad you are here! I am the Bay Area member rep and I can help connect you to meet ups that are happening near you. In Pleasanton CA there is a meet up on the second Sunday’s of the month and it has a great regular turn out and active.
