Hi. Just joined maybe a week or two ago. We're big on traveling and take big trips every summer. besides our regular trips up into the Sierras here in California. This summer we'll be going California to New York in our new 2018 4Runner TRD Off-Road. We probably won't be doing too many "crazy" off road excursions on this trip as I'm still getting comfortable with the 4Runner and doing any crawling type off road. I am looking for a roof rack that isn't going to cost me $1500 but one that will hold a bit AND still allow us to use our Thule cargo box. I see a bunch of racks but am having difficulty finding one that I can mount the cargo box to while still being able to hold regular "cargo."

Any info on this is greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

There are a lot of opinions and options for roof racks. Here in Ohio, I only wanted an aluminum option, which narrowed the field down quite a bit. Still, price wise, one of the best bangs for the buck is the rack from Prinsu Design. (http://www.prinsudesignstudio.com) I have the full-length rack, which does require drilling the two front holes. It isn't really a big deal; five of us locally have done them. There is also a half and three-quarter length, which don't require drilling.

Flat loading deck, so you can fit your cargo box on top, and T-slots in the rails for lots of mounting options. With a group buy, mine was $756 delivered to my house. About half the price of the Front Runner and Easy Awn K9 aluminum racks.
