I'm trying to plan out a squaredrop trailer build but I keep flip flopping on how wide/ long to make it. I currently have a 4x6 trailer that I previously built to haul gear down the trails. it is 6'6" overall width and about 5'6" tall with the spare on the roof.
I am considering building either a 5x8 or 6x8 trailer to do the same type of trails with my family ( not just the dog lol). curious what everyones oppinions are about trailer size when it comes to trail use.... I have considered a 6x10 as well with the back 2' angling upward

so a few rough ideas ( I am horrible with sketchup...) ...
this was the basuc shape of the 6x10..

its all basically the same version of trailer just different dimensions. and I know it depends on where I want to take it but I am wondering if others can share their experience with larger vs smaller trailers on trails. I am going to try to get at least my oldest son into camping with it. He enjoys our current setup but I want it to be a bit easier to just roll into camp and already have a bed if I am running later than normal. I considered adding a RTT to my existing trailer but I have a lot of stuff mounted up high and I wouldn't get the dog up top.... so here I am making plans for a whole new trailer lol.

You will likely never regret building a smaller trailer when pulling it down a trail.
You will likely never regret building a larger trailer when it is time to fall asleep.

Carefully analyze your realistic use, what you need to be successful, what your rig's ability to comfortably pull a large/heavy trailer through sketchy terrain really is, family size, and future outlook.

I have two trailers, Expedition and square drop. The expedition is built on an early M-100 Chassis and tub and the square drop is built from scratch. The M100 had an RTT. I used that for years but wind is what made me build something with walls and good insulation. Today I only bring the square drop and the other is slowly being taken apart.

Both of my trailers are the same width as my tow rig's. The length on both match the turning radius of my tow rig. That means they follow the tracks almost perfectly as I maneuver through things. My Square drop bed is three inch's narrower than a queen bed. That fits me well. I "think" the over all trailer is twelve feet with the box 9.5. I have a 23 zero 270 degree awning with walls. That gives me a nice enclosed area for poor weather. The other side has my bathroom/shower.

Here's some poor picks of both.
