Legal Weapons and Overlanding

I am never without a weapon at the ready, whether it be my 9, 12, burna, my tire thumper, bear spray, knife, etc… I am not paranoid, I just refuse to be a victim of some crazy askhole who has nothing better to do than cross my path thinking I will lay down. My kids bought me a shirt and it reflects me well. “I am not one of your sheeple.”

Never needed a gun in 55 years of my life and I’m not going to start now. I’ve needed an extra cam strap more times than I’ve needed a gun, which is zero. I really don’t care what you spend your money on or what your politics are on the issue they just aren’t a part of my kit. The only problems I’ve had out overlanding have been when people have brought weapons along on a trip. I’ve been barrel swept more than once by drunk gun owners showing off their piece. I’ve seen gun owners lose a weapon and it be found in a children’s playground at a state park. So when I lead a trip now I require no weapons to come out of a vehicle. If I see one that person is asked to leave immediately. We are not at war. No one is coming to get you. Issues with protecting yourself from wildlife are caused usually by the people not the animals. Proper food storage will avoid those kinds of issues.

Having been a police officer for 20+ years if you asked me to leave because you saw my weapon in a public place, i would tell you to pound sand with your non sense. You can live your life with your head in the sand but you dont get to pontificate your leftist ideology on our God given rights. Remind me to never, ever go on one of your trips.

That was quiet the broad brush. The gun found in the park sounds just like something that was in the news and not a real incident. Ripped from the news.

No, not nuts, just armed and protected. God bless the US Constitution and Bill of Rights and those who fight to protect it.

Well that escalated quick…assuming how I vote…and that God gave you the right that in actuality the government gave you the right…and yes I have asked people to leave a trip because of too much alcohol which is often illegal to have in some of the areas I travel in…again you do what ever you want when you are doing you, I don’t care…but on a trip that I run and people have paid to be on, you would be asked to leave, whether you are a police officer or not, and your refusal to do so would simply show the rest of us who you really are…

probably dropped it while digging out a candy...
i'd find better folk to hang out with...

Oh I have…I no longer go on trips with lots of people because of carelessness, not only with weapons but with bad wheeling etiquette and putting myself or others in danger…much of what I see happen overlanding only occurs in the US…when traveling internationally such things never occur…my move toward solo travel and international travel is directly due to the sloppiness I see and bourbon and bullet fueled bravado…

as former military and later as a commercial diver, I pretty much traveled the world and one thing I found that always rings true: the people who have it the best are the ones who bitch the most and are the most ungrateful. and with that said...there's still nowhere else i'd rather live...:grinning:

You hit the nail on the head…that’s why I’m traveling more and more out of the US and looking for a place to become an expatriate…any suggestions?
Be sure to find a warm sunny climate where it doesn't snow, I'd hate to see you get buried...Just sayin!!!

The government did NOT/does NOT give us the right.

The U.S. Constitution does not grant us the right to keep and bear arms; it protects a right that already exists.
The Declaration of Independence makes this clear: we are “endowed by [our] Creator with certain unalienable Rights,” and governments are instituted to secure those rights, not to create them.
The Second Amendment states plainly: “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Notice the language—it refers to “the right of the people” as something pre-existing, not something the government is giving us. The phrase “shall not be infringed” COMMANDS THE GOVERNMENT to leave it alone, precisely because the right comes first.
In short, I believe the right to bear arms is inherent and God-given, as the Founders understood natural rights.
The Constitution simply recognizes and safeguards it against government overreach.

The rights we have in the USA are from God. Try reading the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Not sure of your “why” or the reason you chose to express yourself in your OP like that but using your own words “ we know who you are!” But moral grandstanding won’t win you many social points on this social platform. It might work on X or faKebook but “come on man” we are hear to “Enjoy” the community, not tell them where they are wrong (except for eating spam)!!

If ones personal preference bothers you so much, IE: carrying a weapon, that you need to explain to “us” how you never have had a need for a weapon in 55 years, no one really cares about that virtue signaling crap??? Get over yourself and quit being easily offended. I actually am happy that you have not had a need for a weapon. Yet I will run to your defense as you lay down, I promise. It’s in my nature.
