Is my truck lifted?

I bought my truck used and have been looking at the suspension. How can I tell if it's lifted? I read a thread about max tire size on factory suspension and the maximum tire size they gave is only 1" bigger in diameter. I feel like I have more clearance than that.

It looks stock to me. The limiting factor for tire size comes when you turn the wheel about 35% and the shoulder of the tread is closest to the fender well. If you hit a bump while turned, a larger tire will rub in that position. As long as you have about 3/4" clearance you should be fine but you may rub the frame or hit the top of the fender liner on full compression.

I agree with BCBrian. Looks stock and increasing tire size more than 1" without lift and you'll likely rub. It also depends on type of tire as well (mud, AT, etc). Both being equal, I've heard some rub with mud tires when others with all terrains of same size haven't.

My 255/80r17s are 33" and with a 3" lift. Funny thing is they give a slight rub when in full turn and hitting a little bump at a 5 miles per hour or more. But slow crawl over stuff is no problem what so ever.

Thanks for the input guys. Guess I'll be sticking with this tire size for a while as a lift just isn't in the budget right now. Too many other previously planned expenditures (read: My wife is spending our money for a couple years in advance)

My X also has 285/75-16s. I did the infamous "melt mod" to avoid the rubbing as mentioned by BCBrian.

Looks like you have bilsten 5100's in the front that may have been done by the previous owner to level the truck. The rear is definitely not lifted and it is actually sitting pretty low. Weak rear springs is a common issue on Tacomas.

Your truck isn't a sport so the tire size on their now is probably 265/70r16. You can go to a 265/75r16 without any rubbing. This gets you almost an extra inch of tire or 1/2" of lift. To go to 285/75r16 you need 2" or so of lift and some trimming. You will probably also have to chop the cab body mount.

I'll take another look at the front shocks to see if there's any indication of brand. The pic is taken from level ground with the truck on a slightly sloped driveway. If you were to rotate it to level out the driveway the rear end wouldn't look low. I'll have to take a pic with it on a level road.

The tires on it now are the stock 245/75R16. The 1/2" lift is not worth the cost of the new tires. lol. I'll just wait until all these trips my wife is planning are paid for and then start saving toward the parts for a 2" or 3" lift.
