In planning my trip on the Idaho BDR, I came across a 50" wide bridge at 43.80913, -115.53654. I understand the BDR is intended for two-wheel machines, but have also read it's accessible for larger stuff. I'm driving an E250 Sportsmobile that could in no way make it across that bridge. So,
1) Is it actually 50" wide and I suspect it surely is, and,
2) Any recommended alternates.

Thanks!

Terry

I crossed that exact bridge last year. It's definitely wider than 50". I had to go and find my track that I recorded to make sure, but I **think** you should be able to cross there without any issues. Don't murder me if I'm wrong though. This was last June.

Thanks rever, I'm skeptical they would build a bridge that narrow. As I looked at it from the Google Maps satellite view, it just didn't look an narrower than the road to me.

I haven't done it yet, but there is supposed to be a slight detour that goes around the 50" bridge. I know people do it in jeeps, pickups, etc.

The pictures I saw show a normal bridge, with big concrete blocks on it to make it narrow. We have some 50" trail restrictions out here, I believe that is the purpose of the blocks.

There is a post on ADVrider.com that says the barriers on the 50" bridge were removed in 2018.

We're planning on doing the IDBDR in August with our van, a jeep, and a few motos. Guess we'll find out for sure then.

I've contacted the Boise National Forest to see if the concrete barriers narrowing the bridge have, indeed, been removed. I'll let you know.

Thanks everyone!

We went through it, no issues. There was no 50 inch restriction.

Confirmed.
Just went through last night. No barriers.

Also, reported road washout is minor. Locals are clearly driving through it. I made it, no problem, with the Jeep.

There is a road closed sign while heading north on the route (fr312), however, I was coming south and never encountered any warning until I was one it.

But, no problem to cross at all.

Cheers
