I need some travel advice.

I actually plan on flying to San Francisco and stay there for a few weeks first, and I would like to drive a V8 Mustang once.

There are a couple of businesses in town that let you drive "exotics" on a track (especially at the Speedway on the north end of town) as well as rental companies that rent various "muscle cars".
