As others have previously said, buy the best gear you can afford. Is cheap recovery gear better than nothing? Absolutely. Is name brand gear better than cheap gear? Absolutely. The one thing to remember is that any piece of recovery gear can fail at any time, regardless of price, and they all should be used with this in mind. Never assume a higher priced piece of gear with a name brand on it is invincible, from personal experience they can brake also....

There are several off road recovery companies on YouTube. Every single one of them has switched to HF winches. One guy went through several Warn winches and is yet to break a single Harbor Freight one. DO the research. they are probably the best winch for the money right now...
