You can do a search here on the site about Ham radios. There has been lengthy discussions on this vs CB radio, GMRS and FRS radio usage. As long as you have a Ham license then you will be in good with the Ham operators, as they frown on illegal activity on their radio frequencies.

Correct, ZA license for GMRS. But you asked about the UV-5R, which are illegal to program for GMRS frequencies.
