Hey Folks, newbie here from Eastern NC (anyone else in the area?).

Fun question for my first post...

I discovered overlanding a little while back when I stumbled upon Expedition Overland's YouTube channel. Watching their expeditions was awesome, and I knew that was something I wanted to do. After more digging, I found Overland Bound and several other OL-related YouTube channels, and I'm really anxious to get out there.

So...I currently have a 2012, F-150, 2WD (with only a year left to pay it off); BUT, I'm really wanting something 4WD to be able to get into some places I can't currently go. SO, the question is, sell the F-150, and get something to OL in now, or pay it off in a year, then wait another year or so to save up enough for a down payment on an OL rig?? LOL Can't afford two vehicles until I pay off the F-150.

Anyway, looking forward to hopefully making some connections, and getting into OL'ing!

Welcome from Austin, TX. Don't let the rig hold you back, lots of good times to be had with a two wheel drive truck. The adventure should wait for no vehicle. You will just have to stay on graded trails, like must State and National parks. Do the more adventurous trips, when you get the next vehicle.

I often day dream about the next build, even when I have a perfectly capable vehicle now. LOL

Greetings from Winston Salem! I agree you shouldn't let the rig hold you back, however if you are able/willing to find another vehicle there are a lot of options. You can start stock and grow into other areas as you learn more. I was like you but I had a Camry. Not much you can do with that. I saved my money and found a good deal on a used 4Runner and have never been happier with a vehicle purchase. I have slowly(maybe not as slowly as my wife would like) added overland features but I was out the day I got my truck. You don't need a 50,000 rock crawler to overland.
