Georgia (the country) is a popular destination among overlanders. For long-term travelers, the region is a dream, and a trip to Georgia can be easily combined with visits to some neighboring countries. Georgia is also a great destination for long-distance travelers on their way to or from Central Asia. Have been there twice. Absolutely worth a visit.
There has now been an important change to the entry regulations:
Nothing special, such regulations exist in some countries. However, the question is always how this is actually implemented in practice. As this has only just begun, I am not yet aware of any practical experience from overlanders. Let's see how it actually works out. Perhaps someone will be traveling to the region in the foreseeable future and can report back?

- Since January 1, 2026, travelers entering Georgia must provide proof of health and accident insurance with a minimum coverage of 30,000 GEL (approx. 10,000 EUR or approx. 11,000 USD) for the entire duration of their stay.
- A corresponding confirmation from the respective insurance company must be presented in English or Georgian when crossing the border.
