Fishing the Sierra Nevada

Fishing Bishop Lake, Kal Kellog has all the info… check out FishHuntShoot Productions on YouTube. He is a local fishing guide in the area and has a lot of tips and tricks on what works and doesn’t work when fishing the Sierra Nevadas.

I really only have experience fishing the high country lakes we backpack to, but as I shift into using the truck more, I think we're going to have to hit the "jeep access" lakes and streams in the Eastern Sierra more. Darnitall, though: I'm gonna need bigger stuff to land those beasts like in the first photo! A 2lb'er is hefty at Thousand Island, Merced or even Bernice (before the de-fishing murder) and so we pack with ultralight reels and 4#.

I broke my fly rod catching that one. I've been keeping that location a secret for 25 years, maybe it's time I give it up and set up a rally point for the spring.

One of the main reasons I bought my JLUR was to fish the sierras. Been fishing that area since I was a little kid and I'm ready to hit the not so accessible spots with the Jeep as it has become so crowded the last few years.
