Had a wonderful trip to New Mexico and camped four nights in a great spot near Mayhill. Free camping on 16 Springs road with lots of forest trails to drive.
Just out of curiosity, are there bears in that area? or do you just like to walk and keep the kitchen and camp separate to get more steps? -
Looks like fun!
There are bears but to many calves and other criders to worry about bears. That area of N Mexico is known for the highest number of mountain lions. Didn’t see anything but dear and elk, heard turkeys.
I usually go solo, since I work weekends only.
It's nice going solo and having no plans, just explore at my leisure.
We have bears and lions here too, but have 2 hunting dogs. Once, in Utah, a lion and her cubs were circling my camp at 2 am (toquerville falls) and she would not leave for at least 20 or 30 minutes, my dogs were trying desperate to go outside so I had to hold them.
