CURT Roof Rack DIY Shovel and Axe Mounts...

Hi All,

Here are my DIY shovel and Axe mounts on a universal CURT Roof Rack.
Lumax LX-1188 shovel brackets for ~$9 each (also avail in black for $15 each)






Had to drill my own holes in the lumax bracket, to avoid drilling through the top bar of the rack:

Hit the brackets, flat bar, shovel with some rustoleum... flat bar is used for rear braces behind the flimsy CURT Panel

Used galvanized hardware to mount it up

Finished product.... need to add a lock system to guard the shovel and axe against sticky fingers, but that's easy enough!

Quick Fists were OOS on Amazon, so I had to improvise... turned out pretty good I think.
Those springs require substantial foot pounds to pull; the axe and shovel aren't going anywhere soon.

Nice and cheap way to mount shovel and ax. Do you have any rattling out of your setup?

Ever so slight rattle at highway speeds... Haven't isolated it yet, but a couple of stretch lock bungee cords would take care of it I think.

Might just be the axe sheath rubbing the roof channel. I do need to trim that up.

Super stout!
Went to Hollister Hills SVRA over the weekend for some off road fun... shovel and axe didn't budge one bit.
As far as locking mechanism, we'll probably just run cheap bike locks thru the handles and around the rack itself.
