Does the threaded (connection) end of the antenna (I have a fire stick) need to touch the bottom on the mounting stud? Or is the long double female threaded bolt the connection?
I am mounting to my 1/4" thick bumper and there is a gap.
The pic show the gap i am worried about.

Not sure your question exactly as the mounting position isn't clear. The hole in the mounting surface needs to allow the smaller diameter of the plastic piece to sit down in it.

And if you're using a Firestik, get an antenna spring for the base of it, or you risk snapping the mast off.

This picture explains it better. I had SWR issues and spoke with Firestik and Cobra bit ended up figuring out the issue myself

i just started upgrading my CB set up and I'm looking for advice on a new antenna, i have a 3ft fire stick and I'm not quite incrusted with it so now I'm looking for a new antenna that is about the same size but has better range.
