I was just there this month.
I’ll mention a few things to prepare for the trip that might help.
Davis Ferry is the only ferry carrying vehicles to the Cape. Davis, NC Ferry Service | Cape Lookout Cabins & Camps | South Core Banks Fishing & Camping
It cost me $181.00 to ride the boat (both ways) with my Tacoma and my wife. You can call and reserve your date/time. You will need a resrvation. They move a lot of metal.
You’ll need a recreation.gov permit for the Cape Lookout area.
Be prepared for biting insects at night. We used a Gazelle Gazebo and buried the bottom skirt in the sand. Was totally windproof and kept all of the bugs at bay.
There is a shower on the island not too far from where the ferry lands.
I didn’t go for the fishing but it is supposed to be excellent for surf fishing.
