For those planning on hitting a trail what are you using for communication if anything? CB, FRS, GMRS?

I have a feeling that will be the more common answer. Looking at adding communication and don't want to spend money on something I won't use. I know CB has been used for a long time making it more common. I really like GMRS now that the FCC extended the license term to 10 years from 5, no antenna tuning needed, antennas are shorter, and it works with FRS radios.

I got a CB for easy convenience, cost and prior knowledge. Longer term the plan is to get my license and go 2 meter to start and then see where that goes. Since the radio will be used most on the trail and most often when rigs are in eye shot of each other, go with a 40 channel handheld CD and forget the antenna. I got a Midland that can be either handheld or truck based with external antenna but I suspect in 95% of the uses, the handheld configuration will work just find.

On a side and humorous note, back in the late 70's I had a Cobra 29 (no 40 channels then) in my Dodge Power Wagon and listening to the truckers on 19 then and now, it sounds like time just stood still.
