I am installing a GMRS, Midland 575 and a Ham, a nos Kenwood TM-V71A. I was thinking about mounting on the cross rails of my Alucab Canopy Camper and was wondering about if thats a good placement especialy since I have solar panels. Not sure how that would effect all. 2' max height of the Antenna's is most I would want. Need Antenna recomendations etc. Thanks.

I use this one on both my rigs. Robust enough to hit a branch and not be damaged. The SWR is also good for Gmrs.

Hi Cary,

I used the Blue Sea 1003 CableClam Waterproof Cable Wire Pass-Through for the cab penetration (see image 5152) and the Front Runner antenna mount for both the GMRS and Ham antennas (see image 5154) to side mount to the rack. The siderail mount has a pivot pin function that allows your aerial/antenna to tuck neatly beside your rack when maneuvering under overhead obstacles, trees or entering low overhead parking areas. I opted for the 3.5 Ghost Antenna. and the taller Comet 2M for the HAM.

I know you have the Alu-Cab set up that has differed side rails so this is just some food for thought to keep the mount high and cable out of the way of any moving accessories.

Also I too have the Midland 575 radio and installed a shielded CAT-6 panel mount in the dash as a quick handset connection/disconnect option.
