Bypass filters are used fairly frequently on HD trucks. One of the owner operators at the fleet I used to work for ran one. He pulled regular oil samples and it helped quite a bit. Another advantage of adding a bypass filter is increased oil capacity, which will also help engine longevity.
Centrifugal oil filters are super awesome. Honda has run these on their small engines since the 60s. This style of filter is also starting to show up in HD diesel engines.

I uses a simple brass street tee between the oil pressure sender and the block to get the oil. My valve cover is cast aluminum so I drilled and tapped a hole and just feed the oil back into the valve cover.

Just for reference for those who do not know, the Frantz oil filter has been around for over 50 years and uses a roll of toilet paper to filter. Contrary to old wives' tails, you engine does not have a bunch of crap floating around and the toilet paper does not dissolve. One year I sent in an oil sample for assay. They sent back a note about this being an April Fools joke. It measured cleaner than what comes out of the bottle new. That was with 40k on the oil. I do however add some replacement oil to cover what I lose when I change out the roll every 1-2k miles and maybe a touch of ZDDP for the lifters.

If you install the system yourself and drill or tap the intake or use a filler cap, make sure the return is not directly over a valve. Valve seals are meant to keep out mist and splash. You can end up sucking oil past the seal if it runs directly on it.

It took me years to find out why on the trail people were telling me I was blowing smoke at slow speeds when I got none in town or on the road. The off camber dumped oil on the intake valve causing it to smoke. Frantz offers a neat self tapping unit where you just drill a hole in the side of the oil pan and screw the fitting in. Either way, it not hard to install and putting the filter where you can easily get to it makes an oil filter change a 5 minute job.

I routinely put 50k miles on my Rotella oil and standard OEM filter. Each TP filter change goes with adding back in about a half quart to compensate for the loss. I also dilute an ounce or so of ZDDP in that half quart to keep the level up for the flat tappet lifters in my older rig. This is not necessary with roller cams.

For those of you questioning the TP route, Frantz also offers a special media filter that replaces the TP.
