By the way welcome to Overland Bound. I live down here near SILVER CITY. I'm a new member as well and hoping to meet up with some folks in New Mexico. I have an older Land Rover Discovery 2 that I'm trying to get ready for some deeper excursion's into the wilderness. Your lucky to be up state because there are a lot of 4 wheelers up in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Your right about New Mexico and it's gun laws as they are presently, but we have a mischievous new Governor who would take them away from us at the drop of a hat if she could. I see nothing wrong with carrying a weapon and when I go into the woods I also carry a shotgun for birds, a 22 for small game, A big bore for large game, a 22 Mag pistol for plinking, and a 9mm for personal protection. I usually have a least a thousand rounds of various ammo for whatever the occasion. Yes I am prepared for whatever and I think everyone should be.

No problem. It amazes me too when someone isn't from the Albuquerque area. My grandfather was born in Silver City in 1899. NM wasn't even a state then. I plan on visiting the Gila National Forest and cliff dwellings sometime this summer. I'm not sure when.

No problem. It amazes me too when someone isn't from the Albuquerque area. My grandfather was born in Silver City in 1899. NM wasn't even a state then. I plan on visiting the Gila National Forest and cliff dwellings sometime this summer. I'm not sure when.

The cliff dwellings are about 40 miles north of me. Let me know when your in the area and we can have breakfast or lunch and maybe trip up there together. There are just so many places to go here. Plenty of good camp sites as well, some with some fair fishing holes.

Sounds good. I've always wanted to explore that part of the state but never had the time. I'll let you know more when I get closer to knowing something definite.
