    Garmin Overlander

Correction- the topo maps and road maps are perfectly clear at 100% zoom on the overlander - only the aerial maps are fuzzy at full zoom - but those are 3rd party maps- All maps from Garmin are perfect at full zoom and out.

    Radio

I was saying "HT" as in the hand held units. HF sounds like a great addition and there is a lot of info on it, (which I have never tried any of,) on you tube and it definitely looks very interesting - longer range for sure. I do lose my location on aprs when I am out of the repeater range...

HAM Radio with MARS/CAP Mod vs. 2 Radios in Rig (GMRS + HAM)

They make some pretty compact radios so installing two isn't so bad room wise - Running two radios is great - monitor both gmrs and ham frequencies. I have a few radios I swap in and out of my cars and I use the mag mount antennas because I use the drive through car wash. Great thing about...

through wifi you can do google map shots of the trails - sometimes the trails are not on the maps but they are in the imaging. super fast and easy. Worst thing about Garmin the voice commands absolutely do not work- ever!

    Radio

There are the HT radios that have the ARPS also - the yaesu FT3DR is about 350.00 and does it- great for when you are hiking or on a motorcycle. still tracks and locates - and sometimes you are nowhere anyone would look unless they had your GPS location and a note saying "help". The battery...

    Radio

I use a Ham with APRS to contact via text if I have no cell reception - Also great for folks at home to see where you were last at if you fail to return home or answer a call. I have a GMRS due to a lot of my group use it. I have 10 meter and cb as well. Multiple choices and redundant systems as...

    Garmin Overlander

I have the Overlander - I think I paid about $400.00 for it new on a sale, I have not seen it at that price again. - Great unit- I does have some things I don't like but much more that I do like - You can also use it as a tablet. The road maps and off road makes do not overlay so sometimes you...
