I wont pretend to know on the tires but I think full sizes are great for trips. You can comfortably bring what you want/need which includes plenty of gear for comfort, tools and all the parts if you break down, etc.
I think your recovery gear list is a good one. My only concern would be if a...
I am a fan of innocuous/under the radar screen approach. I wouldn't put high priced/high value items on the outside of my vehicle just because it might create attention I dont want or need. I would rather have an all stock looking vehicle with everything of value hidden away where prying eyes...
I watched it this AM. What a GREAT show! Thank you for the recommendation! So great to see all the places and the people. It really tells a great history of scotch and where it has come. I truly wish I had the palate to discern all the varieties of smells and flavors. My wife is (my term) a...
Yep....ignore. I'd rather see a beat up old Chevy pick up or a Jeep with some dents in the fenders and mud on it than a pristine "Overland Rig" (I have a neighbor with one....you could eat off the under carriage....but he looks cool with his hi-lift on the hood and his recovery rings all nice...
Oh cool thanks! I would love to think I could be a small batch distiller for friends and family kind of thing (not that I could or would....dont need to go blind! Ha) but I appreciate the chemistry coupled with art behind distilling. I will check it out!
There is something magical about that...
A great time I had many years ago was when I got invited to a Johnny Walker scotch tasting. It started with a steak dinner which was obviously a smart idea given what was to come....ha.
Our placemats were maps of Scotland. On the map were marked the 8 (IIRC it was 8), single malts that go into...
I remember being shown the difference in a single malted by itself and with a drop or two of water. Crazy how that little bit of water changes the flavor. That being said I'm a novice with scotch and prefer bourbons as I mentioned previously. :) but it's fun trying different things!
Good to see some recommendations....I'm always leery of trying something new on my own. Have had some single malts that just were not my thing so prefer to have something others have recommended.
I am more of a whiskey/bourbon guy anyway so stick more to them. I did get some Rye for my last...
I am sure that helps but don't know that it's foolproof (just from my experience). But everything is a tradeoff I get and the tint may be enough to keep it much less likely to be noticed in the first place! :) Cheers!
(Again, my comments are not intended to mean people shouldn't use molle...
If I could be so bold as to comment that while storage space is limited in many vehicles, and I have been a fan of molle seat back systems, I am rethinking them due to the "advertising" factor of having lots of cool stuff a mere window smash & grab away.
I like anonymity with my vehicle so...
I like what you've said here.
I think another aspect to it that I didnt fully appreciate as a kid is the balancing act between the various systems/components within a vehicle and how tweaking one thing can cause a cascade of other issues on other systems. The best example is wheel bearings...
A new movie...The Mice and the Darkness....
I remember hearing Ravens one night and being convinced it was a gang of murderers killing someone. Animals can set us on edge when our minds run amok.
My wife always say "pay attention to your little voice". It often tells you something subconsciously that you can't fully articulate or state. I agree with her. If something doesn't feel right, no sense hanging around if you can avoid the situation altogether.
On fishing trips in Maine twice over the years had local people "checking us out" in a way that had senses tingling.
Once I was fishing downstream while a buddy was fishing upstream on a small stream. We were using radios (the little hand held FRS ones) to stay in contact- we would often do...
I get the idea of less is more and from backpacking days I could make do with a small single burner backpacking stove.
But with vehicle travel, off roading I want to be prepared for those emergencies that would really mess up my trip were I to break down, get stuck etc. 100 miles from...
