    Better bought than built

What is that one piece of gear that you have that the name brand/original product is worth buying over the copycat or diy?

    Overland expo east 2021

I’m in a similar boat. Coming up from central NC. Do the wooded sites have tent pads or just tree roots? I’d probably hammock camp anyway. But, if you convoy and check in together would your sites be adjacent, or is it assigned at registration time, or is it first come first pick.

All suspension links, springs, bushings, etc have been replaced. All steering links, TREs, and ball joints are replaced. Need a steering box and an alignment, but the DW appears to be mostly gone.

    Hello from Wallburg NC

Hey guys and gals, been here a bit, but not terribly active. We reside in Wallburg, NC just outside of Winston-Salem. I used to absolutely flog my TJ at Uwharrie and look forward to a less violent camping/driving experience there in the future. Hurricane Creek-->Max Patch and DB Backcountry...

Update your old (or new) Garmin GPS devices for free!

I'm gonna give this a try. I've had my Nuvi 1450 sitting beside the computer for some time now waiting for the chance. Tonight I downloaded Basecamp, plugged the Garmin in, and nothing... Let's try Garmin Express... Open, update, update, connect to device. Device not found. Grrrr. Wait! I think...

Tire width for a daily overland rig (JGC WK2)

If I’m reading the website correctly, an 8.5” wheel is the sweet spot for the 275s.

Tire width for a daily overland rig (JGC WK2)

Have you chosen your wheels? What width? I would lean towards the 275s instead of the 295s if you are set on that tire and a 20” wheel. I would be more interested in the 265/70R18 if 17s aren’t an option.

Where did you install your OB emblem?

On the back, because I’m slow, and that’s the only flat piece of sheet metal on a WJ.

    2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

A little bit of history. My wife bought this WJ before she was my wife. I’ve always been a Jeeper, so I was happy to take the hand me down when we bought her a newer vehicle. It’s a 2004 in Laredo trim with a 4.0 I6 and the oft maligned, but still spinning 42RE transmission. At 241k miles and...

I was able to travel up with a neighbor. We stayed in a hotel about 30 minutes off site. Next year we hope to stay on site. We probably won't have a cool trailer or RTT, but I can get mighty comfy in my hammock. Really looking forward to camp cooking instead of the food truck lines and beers...

    Ham HF mobile users

I run a FT-857D in my Jeep with a 40m hamstick and usually need most of the 100 watts she’s capable of. I have an FT-817 that I use for SOTA/POTA/etc. and the 5 watts is a real hindrance at times with short, coil loaded antennas, but string up a full size wire antenna and contacts come a lot...
