Keep the length, shorten then vertical section. I like a full length roof rack, hell my rack is literally 10ft long, but I like the verts to be slightly shorter.
I'm not a big fan of all-in-one zooms because every lens is a compromise. Prime lenses are compromises in aperture use. Zoom lenses are compromises in zoom and aperture. More focal length ranges a zoom lens has, the more of a compromise it took to make it all work well. For my money I'd...
The ladder's paint was dry so it got bolted on, the 1/2 wave 2-meter and the 5/8th wave CB antennas went on the rack, radios went on the shelf and things are starting to come together. The boogie wipes should be an obvious need for those of you who also have young kids. ;) The 2-meter was on a...
Like Mr. Cash and his Cadillac, things are starting to come together for the adventure Van. If I bought a similar rack and ladder from the big named provider I would be nearing $3000. As I sit I'm around $300 including the lights.
Roof rack completed and mounted today. The lights aren't wired in yet, waiting for a fused bus to show up to run a new complete circuit that will run the lighting and the commo package that is on order (HAMA and CB). Not in view are 2 LED cubes for the rear. I should have the air dam mounted...
When you buy check the DOT stamp on each tire and refuse anything that isn't new, I'd say a year old or less. Catastrophic tire failures seem to increase with a tire that is five years old or more. Major products cases, like fatality rolling events caused by tire delaminations, don't make the...
I'm not involved with the local HAM club but use it frequently with my friends while on adventure. CB is for on the highway use generally as all of the people I camp with who use radios are licensed HAMS. For the times that we have people in our groups that aren't we flip over to a couple of...
That depends. Until the castle doctrine change a few years ago, even in Texas it would have not been legal to carry a bat as a means to use for a club. Although perfectly legal to carry a bat for means to use as a bat. Pedantic yes, but an important distinction if you are stopped and asked...
Windows based like a mounted laptop? That option has some great choices. This would be on the top of my list if I was running a laptop (which I might do in the future): http://shop.delorme.com/OA_HTML/DELibeCCtdItemDetail.jsp?item=33150§ion=10091
The ipad solution was cost effective and...
If they're F-Mount lenses made after about 1968 then you can. Depending on the lens some things like autofocus or metering may not function but good glass is good glass. One of the things I love about Nikons.
I'm a Nikon guy. I run D800 bodies, Sigma lenses for the 24-70 and 70-200 range, Tokina for 16-28 and some other random lenses. However I have a business and that requires having a certain amount of photography gear.
The 3000 series and the 5000 are incredible bodies. With a little skill and...
I use the BadElf GPS antenna (available for iWhatever and Android). I have the Garmin app and "Topo Maps." I download the high res USGS topo scans by the sections. You can set waypoints, etc.
I grew up in Sherman and head up to Grayson county a few times a year for family. Last time I was there I headed out to Paw Paw Creek on Lake Texoma to scout for a campsite for Thanksgiving week. Boy the flooding really did a number on that place. There used to be some neat (but short) little...
You could do it like HAM call signs. You get issued one with a new license and you can get a specialized (vanity) call sign if it is available. There used to be a fee for it, now it is free. For you guys you could charge a fee for a "vanity" number.
