I am currently using a ladder-rack style system that mounts to the rain gutters, and have been mounting 3 large Plano cases to it. I'm not all that happy with it because they sit pretty high, and are hard to access plus they destroy my gas mileage. I'm not really fan of drilling into my Jeep...
Not to mention that with the giant wiper motor and tiny rear view mirror, rear visibility is next to nothing in a Jeep anyway. Side mirrors are our friends.
Also, hearing that there are no trails at all makes me really f*ing sad. It's cool that Badlands is only 2 hours away but I'm not much of a "offroad park" kind of guy. I'd rather see some trails and camp remotely.
I was close to heading out to meet up with you guys next weekend, but am going to be heading NY instead for some work. Mike (aka @poopie) is part of our group and said you're really cool and that we definitely need to link up so I'll be sure to do that as soon as I can!
Other than Shawnee National Forest and a couple of offroad parks, does anyone know of any trails in IL? Just moved here a couple of months ago, and have exhausted my search options trying to find information about where I can drive on dirt that's not private property. It would be awesome to get...
We've all been there. Got a little lost on the trail, work kept you just long enough to get a late start to your destination, or it took you a few extra minutes (hours) to find that super remote waterfront dispersed camping spot. You roll in and there's already some people set up. What's the...
Yeah, they show the tire carrier in the photo but it's not included. Smittybilt bolt-on tire carrier alone is $600! I'm not in a huge rush as I won't need these until Spring when I'm going on a 6-week expedition. Just gonna keep checking CL and FB Market for deals and if nothing else pops up I'm...
My favorite choice after a bunch of research that's close to my budget is this one: https://www.quadratec.com/products/12249_200X_PG.htm?gclid=CjwKCAiA9f7QBRBpEiwApLGUitI6TGhKeoZPZfPNhOu9lK6ZIwGrBGEoRVhPBF0UTOpIfizTfZQi_hoC7b0QAvD_BwE
As far as rear bumpers with tire carriers, the cheapest I...
All I was saying is that a 2WD vehicle with a locker and decent suspension is a pretty capable off road vehicle. I think our views of what I mean by "running start" are different, and I'll leave it at that. If you weren't there then you would have no way of knowing the trail conditions and how...
Are you saying that it's not possible to overcome an obstacle with some momentum without displacing terrain? A little forward motion into the obstacle is exactly what prevented any tires from spinning.
I have video of the exact spot I'm talking about. I didn't say anything about destroying the...
^ This. Just went wheeling with a guy who had a 2WD Ranger with rear locker and he was able to do all the stuff us 4x4s were doing, albeit with a bit more of a "running start". Those were some gnarly trails, and since you need a bit more momentum, the suspension is important. Traction boards and...
My wallet feels emptier just thinking about a LR build. I do consider myself somewhat "lucky" about my selection, but it also requires hours and hours of research as well as tons of trial and error when buying stuff from Chieeeena. That's not just true to parts, but pretty much anything you buy.
I keep noticing that the "latest member to join forums" number has been consistently in the 9000s for the past few days, and that OB membership seems to be growing exponentially. I'm #8207 and I joined on September 19th, so that is some SERIOUS growth. I think it's only a matter of days before...
This girl I knew when I was in high school said something I'll never forget: "Tinted windows are for ugly people."
I don't know how that applies to your post, or why I always think of it whenever tinting is mentioned, but maybe telling your wife that will keep her from pressuring you into...
I'm in the market for an aftermarket rear bumper because I will eventually add a rooftop rack to my JK and most won't work with the OEM bumper when wanting to mount to the frame instead of the body.
I already added a full-width steel bumper to the front which was for the recovery points and...
Man, you must know that spot well! Yes, that's right before the entrance. We got hung up there for about an hour filling the rut with logs and rocks so we could get through. Even Jeremy was getting hung up!
