What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

https://www.princessauto.com/en/vehicle-hard-shell-rooftop-wedge-style-tent/product/PA0009043449 This. I really didn't think I would ever pull the trigger on a rooftop tent, but honestly this was way too good of a deal to pass up. Shipped to my house for free.

2006 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4wd SLT - "Rumble"

So I keep thinking about a solid axle swap even though it's expensive and complicated. I did a little research and found that the 2010 series of Jeep Wrangler's front axle track width is only 1" narrower overall than the Dakota, plus I'm fairly certain the bolt pattern is the same. Something...

    Legal Weapons and Overlanding

My choice would have been something like .44 magnum for Grizz, but there's something to be said about round count and speed of fire, as well as quick reloads, and 10mm is surely no slouch. Lighter than carrying a huge revolver too. Solid all around choice I'd say.

2006 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4wd SLT - "Rumble"

No, the 1500 strut is 2" longer, unfortunately, however the top hat diameter, bolts and bolt spacing are the same, meaning that you can bolt it right into the top, but it won't fit into the lower control arm by reason of being too long. The upshot is that tophat spacers made for the 06...

2006 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4wd SLT - "Rumble"

Spacer lifts are fairly easy to come by, as the strut top is the same as the same gen Ram. From what I know of IFS in general, 2" is pretty safe. Before I bought mine, someone did a spacer close to 4" of lift, which is really too much. In my case they combined it with a spring over axle lift in...

2006 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4wd SLT - "Rumble"

It definitely seems like the third gen is an underappreciated platform, which is too bad because I really like mine. Recently we've been hit by the onslaught of winter, so I haven't had much time to work on it. I rigged up and painted some cross bars for the side of the rack, to make a carrier...

    Overlanding "Fulltime"???

To each his own. I gotta say, though, nothing quite matches the silence and beauty of a snow blanketed winter night in the bush.

SRN’s 2017 Nissan Armada Build Thread

Those Nissan engineers, they think differently lol.

SRN’s 2017 Nissan Armada Build Thread

That's interesting that they used both 4wis and IFS in the same platform, as the frontier and Xterra are both IFS, unless I'm mistaken.

Sweet rig! I like the black and yellow colour scheme. That slide out looks awesome! Got some details on it?

    Old mines, ghost towns, etc......

    Very awesome. Thanks for sharing!

Are my wheels and tires big enough to off-road!?

Yes it absolutely does care about flexibility. Less pressure means the rubber is more likely to flex than puncture. Take a balloon that is only slightly inflated vs one that is fully inflated and see which one is easier to pop. Literally the only time I've had sidewall damage is when I failed...

Are my wheels and tires big enough to off-road!?

Disagree, at off road speeds, airing down decreases the chance of damage by making the tire more flexible. Obviously don't air down on hard pack. It's the speed vs the pressure that causes the excess hest buildup. And yes, the amount to air down will vary based on conditions, weight, etc, which...

    Overland Hound

The Beagle is strong with these ones. My first dog as a kid was a purebred beagle, and they will forever hold a special place in my heart. The beagle has one of the most charming and expressive faces among all the dog breeds, imo. Thanks for sharing such gorgeous pups with us :)

Are my wheels and tires big enough to off-road!?

Properly airing down your tires not only increases traction but also helps protect your tires from punctures. Invest in a good air down tool and a compressor and always air down when you hit the dirt and you should be good to go.

Sweet build on the jeep. I really like the name.

Are my wheels and tires big enough to off-road!?

As always, OB can be counted on to deliver excellent advice. I'm mostly echoing what's been said already, but absolutely yes you can. To give you even more confidence, my first 4wd was this: 1999 Honda CR-V. This pic was before I even put bigger 235 tires on it. Those are 205/75/15's. I drove...

2006 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4wd SLT - "Rumble"

Back from the expo. It was a blast even though I was forced to cut it short due to RL commitments. I managed to get the truck out for a little shakedown run around some forestry roads and tracks on the north side of Hwy 16, and unfortunately they confirmed that indeed the CV's are at an...

    Campground Insanity

That's pretty intense and crazy. As much as I personally prefer bush camping myself, I have to say I've done my fair share of campground camping and my experiences have been nothing like that, even the "worst" ones. Most of the campgrounds I've been to in Canada have been really nice, fairly...

    Alberta Outdoor Adventure Expo

Welp, turns out the Dakota isn't as plain jane as I thought it might be. I'll be there early Saturday morning: I'll be flying my OB basecamp flag from the top of my rack. Hope to see more members in addition to North53Overland and myself! :D
