The toll is $2.00 going from the OR side to the WA side. I paid cash to a person in the toll booth. I didn't see a toll booth on the WA side; you might have to pay it once you get back to the OR side if going from WA to OR. I don't know if it is more if pulling a trailer (which I will be...
Personal defense? Either a 9mm or 45 ACP. It depends on how concealed I'm wanting to carry.
Critter defense? Depends on the bear threat. Bears - Marlin GBL 45-70 or 12 gauge pump with bear slugs. No bear threat? Lever action 1892 44 Mag or AR-14 or 15 (somebody will get the reference).
I may consider getting out there the evening before (especially if the start time is 0800) if there's camping close to there. I'm only about 90 minutes from the bridge (Longview, WA), but I don't want to push it (you never know what traffic might be like coming down I-5 to 205 and on to I-84 on...
These things get hot after running a while (I'm sure they all do). Heat rises, and normally when using this thing the lid is open so heat can escape. I don't know if overheating would be an issue if you were running it with the can on its side. That would be my concern.
I could see storing...
Honestly, I don't like to leave my Jeep and trailer unsupervised for any length of time. Too much stuff attached (including the trailer!) that could disappear in short order. If stopping to eat at a restaurant, I park it to where I can see it from inside the restaurant. If I'm camping, I'm...
I too hope they expand it to 15; I posted earlier (Saturday) asking if I could be added to the list and haven't heard back yet. I've got the time off from work and "have permission" to attend.
Yeah; I'm trying to decide if I want to get to Stevenson the evening before (Saturday evening 5 September), or just leave the house early on Sunday the 6th. Right now I'm leaning towards getting there Saturday evening just so there's no pressure on me Sunday morning to get there on-time...
Yup; just saw it on their Facebook Page. Bummer. I'm sure Ray Hyland is very disappointed (he's a cool guy). The Rocky Mountain Overland Rally is also cancelled.
So to answer your question - yes; we can move the start date to Sunday morning, 6 September. I don't want to move it to Saturday...
Got room for one more? The Rally Point page says 15 vehicles, but the sign-up list is capped at 10.
I'm leading the Old-School Vehicle run up the WABDR in September (right after the NWOR - oh wait; the NWOR's been cancelled now), and it would be nice to pre-run it with an experienced group...
Interesting trip. I took I-5 south to 205, and then once I crossed into OR I took 84 east to the bridge-of-the-gods to cross back into WA and into Stevenson. I drove the TJ for this one.
There's not much going on in Stevenson. Nice little town. We can plan on meeting at the local grocery...
So I plan on heading to Stevenson WA tomorrow to check-it-out. I'm looking for a place for us to meet-up there on Sunday, 6 Sep for the start of the WABDR trip (we'll see if there're any good sporting good stores or such there). Also will be looking for camping areas, and I might check out the...
I like the ARB folding camp chairs. They're only around $50 - $55 dollars. They're definitely not compact, but if I'm going to be sitting around a campfire for a bit or just relaxing, I want to be comfortable. And they are so much more comfortable than the cheapo $5.00 Walmart chairs.
I'm really looking forward to this trip. I was not looking forward to trying to pack everything I needed in the back of the Willys (that's not really true - it was just going to be a challenge, and an opportunity to buy more camping gear). So I thought I'd try something. I wired my Willys for...
I do. What I bring depends on where I'm going and who's with me. An 18" barrel 12-gauge pump shotgun with slugs and buckshot is never a bad idea to sleep with. Also having a 9mm or 45 ACP handgun close by is comforting. And if my wife is with me, figure something is on my person (and...
Yup. Turn it on when you get in the tent and are getting ready for bed, then turn it off as you're getting into your sleeping bag. Then in the morning turn it on, and wait a few minutes before getting out of your sleeping bag, get dressed (in your nice warm tent), and turn it off as you're...
Getting my 46 Willys CJ2A ready for a week-long overlanding trip in September. Space will be limited behind the seats, so I'm having to downsize my usual set-up. So I just ordered two Front Runner Wolf Packs to use instead of my usual Rubbermaid Action Packers. We'll see how they work out.
A few things I learned/remember from attending the last two NWORs:
1. They seem to give out a lot of free beer in the evening (too bad I'm not a beer drinker). My wife says it was "Beer a-plenty".
2. They have a big bonfire in the evening with a raffle. It goes on for a couple of hours...
