2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Build

Change of plans on the rear bumper "caps." Originally we were going to do tube-style similar to this, but with plans to plate-in between the tubes: However to make things really tuck up high and clean, we cut a lot of the lower body out then plated it back in: But, it just wasn't working...

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Build

One of the last things is the hydraulic assist, of course one of the rod-ends was wrong so it couldn't get finished up. Little bit of testing: As you can see, the front swaybar and radiator support need finished, there' some wiring to do (ABS mostly), rear bumper corners, and a bunch of...

    2003 Grand Cherokee Laredo

Bummer on the damage. Really glad to hear how well the 4.7 performed. I have the same feeling about 4.7 WJs vs. 4.0s. Neither are rocket ships, but the torque of the 4.7 is very noticeable, although at a bit higher RPM than one might expect. It's hard to imagine the 330 lb-ft (4.7 HO) NOT...

    2003 Grand Cherokee Laredo

Great post... I suspect I'll be at GVWR with my rig itself and me in it now... certainly over with a full camping load-out. -TJ

    Big Rigs, Full Sized Only

Sorry, my morning coffee must not have kicked in earlier, of course that's an Excursion not Expedition, I must have been too tied up in making my bad pun. Anyway, yes Excursion is what I meant. Giant size, solid axles, great diesel in that 7.3 you have etc. Just a GREAT Overland rig. -TJ

    Big Rigs, Full Sized Only

Right on! Expeditions have to be the ultimate all-around Overlanding, or should I say Expedition Rig!?! So much room inside, could put 2 darn RTTs on if you had a big family (or just a TON of gear on a rack), high carrying capacities, and some interesting drivetrains... if you avoid the 6.0...

    California Fires and Ash

Understood, sorry if my reply came off as combative. 100% they'll need goods like you mentioned, and I'd be all-about a donation drive/collection effort in the areas where it's safe to do so, then working with the right agencies to get it where it needs to be. Feel free to PM me, I'm ready to...

    California Fires and Ash

I was just watching a live press conference with the SC County Sheriff. Man, it's been a tough year for them, the SC County Sheriff's Deputy that was murdered back in June was one of my best friends and it really hurt that community, now they have this going on. Anyway, they've asked that...

    California Fires and Ash

If anybody feels compelled, my cousin and his family lost their home: Adams Disaster Relief Fund organized by Malissa Hutchings As for ash, yes it's all over my stuff too, which drives me a little crazy but obviously I have nothing to complain about vs. folks like my cousin. FWIW when the ash...

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Build

Thanks! I wish I could take credit for the actual fab work, that's all Xero Fab Works in Shaver Lake, CA. Also, ordered a Superchips TrailDash2 to do a few things... it'll: Allow correction for the gearing (4.88 vs. stock 3.73) Allow correction for the tire size (metric 35" vs. metric 29")...

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Build

It seems like the more and more gets done... the more we realize there is left to do. But, it did see daylight, under its own power last week: Obviously there will be some fender trimming still coming up front. Out back, the bumper work is continuing: And underneath, exhaust done...

1991 Chevy V3500 - Old School Earth Roamer

Haha, at least there's one build on here going (way, WAY) more "overkill" than mine and still calling it an Overlander. ;) Love this thing! -TJ

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Build

More progress, and more changes. No more loose-leaves in the front of the Heep, went to c/os. But first, more stuff out back... Bumper coming together: The Bumper isn't done, it will have rear corners kind of like this, but it will be plated in and most of the body behind them will be...

    2003 Grand Cherokee Laredo

I dig the little inserts you made to mount things as low as possible to the stock rails. I still have my half-length cheap-o roof basket to put on the WJ. I'm hoping to have it "hang" as low down close to the roof as possible (with say 1" clearance to keep from damaging the roof as the rack...
