A little Black Diamond LED lantern/flashlight.
I still have fond memories of my Coleman lanterns, but I much prefer the compact size and relative durability of the LED lantern. And it doesn't draw the bugs like the gas lanterns. It's not likely to damage the tent either. Or burn an...
My '73 Suburban is also loud. 454 with ported heads and a Crower cam feeding through a very low restiction dual exhaust. Pretty good at setting off car alarms.
Biggest downside would be if it impacts communication.
Biggest potential upside is that folks are more likely to hear you coming up...
No kidding.
I thought it was bad when I found people who didn't know how to change their own tire. Now I am watching a generation grow up that doesn't even want to learn how to drive.
Mindboggling.
The more systems/moving parts the more failure modes.
And all these little electronic modules are going to be interesting to try to replace in 20 years or so. I expect availability will be a real issue.
I am even hearing about vehicles being "totalled" on account of the cost of replacing the...
Yep.
The authors of "The Millionaire Next Door" have published another book, "The Millionaire Mind". Both are good reads.
In one of their books they come to the conclusion that "these people buy their cars by the pound." I love it.
I look forward to seeing that tailgate project.
Having both XJs and Suburbans (including a square body), I have to tell you I prefer the XJ for overlanding. The size and wieght of the Suburbans becomes a challenge.
As to cost of vehicle, you can get much better prices than what you typically see on the market if you are just willing to be patient. For both my XJ and my Cummins I spent well over a year each watching Craigslist. The "deals" are not out there day in and day out. You have to be alert and...
That only works so long as there is nobody else in the group.
I have seen a whole lot of scrambling and searching through everybody's rig in an effort to find the tools/pieces to put another rig back into operable order.
I carry my stuff with the expectation that I will likely end up using it...
A couple of years ago I finally got my first selectable locker. I added an Ox-Locker in the rear of the XJ. I love it.
When off-roading, as a general rule I will reach for the locker before I reach for 4wd.
BTW, this video is a great tutorial covering the various types of lockers:
As others have said, it all depends on the vehicle. Miles themselves are not a problem.
I have 180K on my XJ, and there are plenty of those out there over 300K and still going strong.
I have 300K on my Cummins, and those are known to go a million miles and keep on ticking (or rattling as the...
I put the Falken Wildpeaks on my XJ a couple of years ago. Love them. Enough so that I just bought another set for the Suburban.
I can't compare the Kumhos however. Not much help on that front.
You will need to put in a trailer axle with electric brakes.
Simplest path is probably to order a bare trailer axle (no leaf spring perches) and weld in coil perches and control arm mounts.
Trailer axle hubs may not offer 5x5 lug pattern without running adapters, so you may need to calculate...
Good stuff. It is a good effort to make folks aware.
If I were to add anything it would revolve around water purification.
I think mental and physical aptitudes and fitness are the most vital things, but those are hard to objectify.
Making folks aware in the first place is the challenge. I...
This case made me think of this thread:
https://www.courthousenews.com/judge-blocks-san-diego-rv-parking-restriction/
It will be interesting to see if San Diego comes up with a new law that is acceptable to the courts or if this will turn into a precedent forcing other cities to back down on...
Yeah, but who would want to live without having fun?
I regard foods like donuts and bacon as health food. They are good for the soul. They give me a reason to keep on living.
If I tried to live a "healthy life" I would want to die.
That's no way to live.
Well done.
At first I couldn't imagine why you would do a black roof, particularly given the temps in your locale, but seeing it behind the Jeep I see why.
Good luck with your own body. Having collected my share of chronic aches/pains over the years I sympathize with you.
You have kids?
They have Legos?
Just sprinkle Legos all around the tents. Legos at night turn into caltrops. Good against both man and beast.
Of course, good luck if someone needs to answer the call of nature at night.
