I honestly don't have plans to make many changes to the Suburban. We just use it.
Keep in mind, for off road purposes I have my XJ Cherokee. It is the trail rig. The Bride isn't into boondocking, so it is just me and The Varmints there. The Suburban does the campground trips and more...
I think there is value in a national event. Perhaps once every 5 years? And yes, it needs to be planned out by a year or more so that folks can work on getting time off. And no, you won't be likely to get even 1,000 attendees. But it is good for expanding the sense of community.
This is the closest I have ever come to wanting a Toyota:

Looking at the departure angle I have gotten over it already. Still a neat rig and might be of interest to someone here.
I will trust what a sales/marketing guy says when I see it backed up on a CARB EO document.
Otherwise it is likely to turn out that it is federal emissions compliant up to '99, but only legal in Kali on the two test vehicles that have been approved in this messed up state.
Just a perspective...
Where is the information that they are CARB compliant to '99? That is awesome for me if that is indeed correct. Only remaining issues become price and whatever it takes to adapt that motor to an AX-15.
I don't think registering out of state is a good idea unless you keep your vehicle in a...
I can't imagine how they are making this work for Kali. Out here, anything I change needs to have a CARB EO number.
But if they can pull it off I am very interested. Among other things, if my '96 Cherokee were a diesel then I would no longer have to get it smogged. And that right there is...
The price for a lifetime pass for seasoned citizens is going up, from $10 to $80. This is a pay it once and it is good for the rest of your life pass.
The price jump happens this August.
Details here, about 2/3 of the way down the page, in red: https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/passes.htm...
'02 3/4 ton 4WD, 8.1L, 4L85E (MN8), G80, 4.10...
LT Autoride, captain's chairs, barn doors...
I think it has just about every option except for Quadrasteer.
120K on the clock
Pretty much stock, pretty much trouble free.
Bought in the summer of '08 when gas was $5/gallon. It is one of my...
It is just one of the many joys of living in this state.
And of course, it is a large state to have to cover. Slowly.
This speed limit is definitely a factor in trip planning, and several times has been the factor that drove our decision not to take the trailer.
Folks have been doing things of that sort for about as long as there have been vehicles. Louis L'Amour did it sometime in the 1930s. Broke an axle on a Model T and had to walk from the Owl's Head Mountains (south end of Death Valley) to Barstow. No canteen. Nothing more than a can of pears...
I think the lifetime warranty will remain even after Sears is finally gone. Some Ace Hardware stores carry them (it varies from store to store) and OSH (Orchard Supply and Hardware) also carries them. OSH seems to be extending their reach. It will most likely be harder to get them exchanged...
I think even more important than getting a burrito in SoCal is to get an order of Carne Asada fries. They are the SoCal grown-up Happy Meal. I highly recommend the Cotixan off Genessee just a block north of Balboa. It is basically just up the hill from Pacific Beach/De Anza cove.
And if you...
Hey! Not so fast!
I've got a thing about shovels, having worn out and broken more than my fair share over the years. A good Razorback with the double riveted socket and a reinforced, welded back is a wonderful tool. A proper hickory handle with straight, correctly oriented grain matters too...
The official claim is that they were indeed manufactured with a manual transmission. From the Wikipedia page:
I have heard this from other sources too, but have yet to come across one. So yes, a unicorn.
Being in Kali, I suspect that if I were to convert one then the smog techs would throw...
Speaking just for myself, I think a ZJ would be just fine as a daily driver and with kids.
I say this as the owner and daily driver of an XJ (smaller and less powerful than your ZJ) who chooses the XJ over his larger, nicer and more powerful '02 2500 Suburban. The Suburban is great for long...
