The Ballad of Simon The Squeaking Subaru- A 2004 BH Outback Build Thread.

Damn those tin worms! I love Firefly. It's always nice to bump into someone in the wild with exquisite taste.

The Ballad of Simon The Squeaking Subaru- A 2004 BH Outback Build Thread.

Funny enough, I actually met him when I was like ten. He used to own a little ranchette up in NorCal by my grandparents' house. I bumped into him at an airshow. He was just some random dude flying an RC airplane on the outskirts of the airfield. Pretty surreal.

The Ballad of Simon The Squeaking Subaru- A 2004 BH Outback Build Thread.

That's a bummer that your Legacy was a lemon even after all of that work! My old Toyota RN38 was a lot like that: I just kept playing Whack-a-Mole with age-related problems: First the t-case blew, then the transmission blew, then the timing chain jumped two teeth, then I did a total overhaul and...

The Ballad of Simon The Squeaking Subaru- A 2004 BH Outback Build Thread.

I had my first chance to properly shake Simon down. I took our pitty to the Mendocino National Forest and had a blast. My biggest takeaway is that even though he's on a 1" spacer lift with 1/4" coil lift and about an inch of additional clearance from the larger A/Ts, I still need more lift. I...

    Thoughts on portals ??

They do raise the COG higher and make rigs more topheavy, and they do increase the amount of unsprung weight at the axle, so you end up with a higher pototential for a roll and a rougher ride and slower response time to terrain changes.

    Thoughts on portals ??

My thoughts on portals: I want them. On my Subaru. Right now.

    Subaru Outback Adventure Edition

I'll never not be jealous that you folks outside of North America got the cool Subi diesel engines and dual-range transmissions. What a cool rig to start off with!

    What type of roads?

Generally those lines with the long white spaces and short black spaces are dirt or fire roads while long black spaces and short white spaces are Jeep trails - roads navigable with high-clearance high-traction vehicles. "High clearance" in this context is 9" from the ground the the chassis- My...

    Let them eat SPAM!

I tried to remain neutral in this feud, but this was my attempt to make the legendary NJ breakfast sandwich for the masses. I haven't been to Jersey yet, but having the real deal one is high on my list of things to do whenever I get to visit back east.

    Let them eat SPAM!

Been a while since I participated in this thread, so I thought I'd share probably my favorite car camping breakfast: Slice up the hickory smoke flavored SPAM into 1/4" slices the long way so you end up with wide squares instead of narrow rectangles, fry it up until crispy on the edges. Top two...

UAZ 452 (Buhanka)- Soviet 4x4 van

I love Buhankas, they're such charming looking vans. I'm sorry that you've had such difficulty getting yours running, but it looks rad all done up now!

    Advice

The WJ, in spite of its technical issues, will definitely be better offroad than a Forester. It has a proper transfer case, more space, and more power not to mention a lot more aftermarket support for things like lockers and driveline upgrades. A miss when cold doesn't sound so bad. It might...

    SG forester budget build

Napa has long-travel front CVs. A pair is about the same price as one OE axle. When my $60 emergency axle finally dies, I'll be getting a set for my own beater Subi.

12 volt lunch box oven - Recipies and how do you like it or not?

Will they ship one to the US? If so, would they bundle it with the non-US version of a Subaru 5MT transmission that has a low range? I need both. For... Reasons...

    1988 HJ75 Landcruiser Troopy build

Yeah, I missed that detail. Otherwise, they were similar chrome wagon wheel steelies. I'd give my right eye to have another T100.

    1988 HJ75 Landcruiser Troopy build

My T100 had those same style wheels with 31x10.5R15 KO2s. Very nice!

    1988 HJ75 Landcruiser Troopy build

Nice. So more grunt, mechanical FI, better cooling, no precups to drop. Sounds like a solid deal to me. Thanks for clearing that up. I haven't spent much time around the non IDI engines.

    1988 HJ75 Landcruiser Troopy build

I'm a little underinformed on the HD series of engines, but does the 1HD-FT mean that it has a more optimal valve and combustion chamber configuration for economy? Kinda like how the 5VZ-FE means that it's the fifth generation VZ engine with EFI and economy valve/combustion chamber...

My 2wd xj until I can convert it to 4wd

For what it's worth, I wheeled a RWD Toyota T100 with minor lift, limited slip diff, slightly larger A/T tires and some minor trimming and had a blast with it. I had to yank myself out of a few sticky situations with a come-along winch, but it was fun. By the time that I became a dad and had to...
