Search Youtube for "Monty Python Four Yorkshiremen" and you will have the perfect example of elite minimalism. Just swap a few words like RTT for house, tent for cardboard box, trail mix for gravel... I am sure you will be able to recognize where you have seen such a perspective before.
This is one of the many reasons I don't fret over what someone else has in terms of gear. Operating as a 1 income, 3 kids family is whole 'nuther ball game. Our prioties and choices are deliberate and we are content with what those mean for us in terms of what we can and cannot afford. Those...
In large part because they work.
It probably doesn't hurt that they are available in a wide range of sizes (not the case for all tires)
It also probably doesn't hurt that BFG spends some serious money in support of offroad sports. I doubt there is any other tire manufacturer who puts so many...
Diesel!
Now you tell us.
As Lanlubber noted, diesels actually hold up. If you ever notice a VW rabbit pickup truck still running you can pretty safely bet it is a diesel.
Diesel is a game changer. I didn't even know they made a diesel Tucson.
None of the issues you have mentioned are...
I can't recall seeing such policies for Overland Bound, but another group I wheel with does have something along the lines of what you are looking for. Sort of...
You could look at this as a starting point.
Or you could look at it and thank your lucky stars you don't know such folks...
That has got to be the coolest custom center console I have seen.
More details please.
Do those boxes lift out? It looks like the latches would be challenging to open in their current position. And if they lift out, how are they restrained while in their places?
I agree.
Many of the things I do with my current vehicles I would not be comfortable doing in a shiny new rig. At this point pinstriping and scrapes are just "character". On a new rig they would be damage.
I would say "enough" for a Tucson crossover.
It would be another matter entirely if you were forking out $5K to keep your Range Rover/Sportsmobile/Earthroamer going.
Unless you have done some pretty extreme work to the Tucson I rather doubt the money spent on it will go nearly as far as if...
Sounds like one of those moments you wish you had on video. Having a large GSD myself I have enjoyed a few times when folks have suddenly become very respectful.
WRT the drones in the morning, I watched an entertaining episode among a group of friends: One was flying his drone to get morning...
LOL!!
I considered naming my Cherokee "Miz. Warren" because even though it is white it claims to be an Indian. The Bride wouldn't put up with such a name in her household.
I can just imagine being in the adjacent bedroom when the gunshots start. LOL.
How do you get back to sleep after that?
In today's world CPS would haul you off so fast it would make your head spin. Yet somehow you survived.
I will have to save your story for use on The Varmints when they...
I am in the same boat as MOAK. I would much rather invest in an older vehicle which can be made more reliable than a new vehicle.
I am substantially more comfortable with my XJ than I would be with a new JL. I don't care for these new computer systems that go into failure modes that require a...
I have an Arrow 146-4 (Linky: Arrow 146-4 II ). I have the one with the 3 piece boom and the optional roll up bag. It makes for a very convenient portable yagi.
I have a friend who has an Elk (Probably this one: Elk 2M/440L5 ). It is probably a good unit as well.
There may be others out...
And the antennas.
If you really want to communicate you need to have a couple of directional antennas.
For handheld radios you are probably best off with a backpack type yagi. These can be carried disassembled and then reassembled when needed.
Or, if you are on the fringe, you can do this...
Annoying people are everywhere.
My biggest overlanding pet peeve is having to fold up a wet tent. More than anything it is the knowledge that I have to take it out and set it up all over again just to dry it out rather than enjoy using it.
That is a beautiful thing. I have (I think) all the junkyard pieces I need to pull off one of those combinations. Haven't sprung for any of the custom pieces yet.
