Leave No Trace advocates for disposing of soap in a cathole (even biodegradable) 200+ feet from water.

Outside has a good article on the subject, and some recommended products.

My "discount powerwall" is based around a used 8S LiFePo4 battery that was originally rated at ~5kW, which I figure is probably down to 3.5-4kW of capacity at this point. The battery is managed by a 8S BMS that does passive balancing, and the system is controlled by a 24v Growatt unit which...
Steve,
I like the idea of using a single DC to DC charger to both charge the pack from the car or to charge the car from the pack. And given that your cells can handle a 400A pulse I would guess that you can jump straight off the pack if you needed to. I've jumped cars off a small 28Ah AGM...
What kind of car are you hoping to jump start? I did a quick search and it seems that many cars can require ~400A to turn over the engine.
Jumping off the LiFePo4
With your 105Ah batteries this would represent a drain of ~4C, can your batteries support that? 400A is also more than your...
When you run out of traction on a hill you just need a bigger running start. :)
Last year I spent a week driving a 2wd minivan around the southern tip of Baja California on a variety of dirt roads, ruts, sand, and mud. It did great, scraped the ground a lot but we never got high centered.
I made some basic spill kits to give to a couple friends for the holidays and figured I'd share here. This is something I've meant to do for a while, and after a friend's truck leaked power steering fluid on a trail this summer I felt motivated to buy the supplies.
After thinking about it I...
Here's a couple that come to mind:

Barker Pass

Mt Watson Trail (there's a way to go from Tahoe City to Truckee)...
A friend of mine sheared the splines off of a front axle shaft near the beginning of the Elephant Hill trail in Canyonlands and then had to drive the rest of the trail in rear wheel drive. Does that count? :)
Great topic!
After driving offroad I stop as soon as I hit pavement and do a semi-quick check while I air up for any obvious issues that could cause a catastrophic failure while driving. This includes eyeballing the control arms, upper and lower ball joints, cv axles, steering (TREs, boots...
I don't think there is any kind of consensus about how to define "vehicle", and attempting to form one would probably go down the same road as trying to define "overland".
Your drinking water can freeze causing you to having no usable water in the morning, or it can potentially crack the container it is in. If the temp is right near 0 and you have a large quantity of water it might not fully freeze, but this is something to take into consideration. I camped at 17F...
I think the 87a pin is "normally closed", which means that it is connected to pin 30 when the coil (pins 85 and 86) is not energized. Or in other words, 30 is connected to 87a when the relay is "off" and to 87 when the relay is "on".
A few more suggestions:
- Before starting to build think about how the drawer will be held down in your Jeep. If you have strong cargo loops on the floor you can potentially use turnbuckles.
- Make the system easy to remove in case you need to carry large items. Mine comes out in just a few...
If you want your aux panel to only be powered when the key is on you can use a relay to switch your aux panel on and off and control the relay using a +12v signal switched by the key.
1. Put your main fuse as close to the + battery terminal as possible.
2. Connect the other side of the fuse to...
Here are some possibilities south of Yosemite near the Nelder Grove and Bass Lake. You might want to check if any of these were effected by the recent fires.
37.41631, -119.58420 : Semi-developed campsite but looked pretty nice when we drove by.
37.41623, -119.55526 : Multiple dispersed...
Top of the backside lift at Kirkwood.
Melissa Coray Peak
End of the drivable part of the trail
This was a low force pull, but we should have used line dampers on each section of rope.
