A little update on my shack. The FT-2900 is moved out to the “Adventure Machine“ permanently. I have a home brewed 1/4 wave antenna that I need to fix to my roof rack and then officially mount the radio, but for now it sits inside the center console hooked up to a mag-mount cb antenna that has...
The Yaemu FT-400XDR is an excellent choice. Most of the people I run around with have that radio. I however do not at this exact moment in time, and I probably will not, have the 400. But here is why... I got my tech license earlier this year. On a shoe string budget I bought a Yaesu FT-2900...
I will partly agree with @1Louder ... I have the OnX Off Road app, and it’s by far the worst navigation app I have used for Overlanding... OnX Hunt is better suited for the task, but way behind BCN, GAIA, and CalTopo... and that is where I disagree with @1Louder . I have the Premium...

I Mike Rose, Northwest Regional Director, am sad to announce:
Effective today, May 11, 2020 all dispersed camping on Oregon Department of Forestry Lands is prohibited. On May 5th, 2020, Governor Kate Brown implemented Phase 1 of reopening the stat of Oregon. Part of this project was opening...
@TheBronze have you dealt with the AnyTone radios, I have been looking at one of the HTs that has built in GPS and APRS capabilities, also like that it uses DMR so it’s compatible with my Icom radios.
The FCC rendered the Boafeng radio as illegal in 2018... in 2019 Boafeng resubmitted their designs to the FCC to become compliment.... so the V3+ Boafeng radios are supposed to have a lot cleaner signals, still not as good as a Name Brand Radio, but still decent. And for experimenting they are...
My mag mount antenna, home brewed J-Pole and my store bought antenna are all way better antennas than the stock rubber duck... inside my travel trailer I can hit all of the repeaters (lots of static, but I can still hear and be heard) with my Nagoya NA-771 19” antenna. When I put the external...
Android doesn’t Have WinLink RMS, ARES report Forms, and most importantly doesn’t support my TNC...
The simple thing to do would be get a Windows Tablet... but no fun in that... and then again, it wouldn’t be an all in one unit any more...
@1Louder , maybe instead of putting ham down so much...
Thanks @1Louder,
Now after looking at all of
These new layers being added, why can’t they port in information from ARPS-IS? Or even ARPS.fi?
One last real question though... is there a Linux version of GAIA? I want to run GAIA in off line mode off of a Linux built Tablet built...

In CalTopo I can layer SnoTel data collection sights onto the map so I can see snow levels at different weather stations. These data collection sights update every hour or so on the map screen (With internet connection of corse). Does Gaia have weather layers that I’m overlooking?
