It is like with virginity.. first time hurts the most, after a while you can even multitask.. :)
I also got got a new 2020 pick up , I ordered the cheapest color, simple white and be done with it.. I know it will not last long. Think of it as cool scars - it will give it character.. :)...
And I agreed with you. I know Canada is mostly empty and vast. US is vast too but much more densely populated. A trip in Canada would be great, but my wife hates cold.. :) . For me the less people there are, the better.
I don't consider tires a mod. And I did change the stock very thin...
your aproach is wrong from the start, like an off roader. You load all the gear you will need . unknown to you now, than dial in the suspension. Or help the economy and swap 3 kits till you get it right.Itnisnfine, nobody will suffer but you :-)
low sulphur diesel is the same. Is not wconomic ro make 6 types of diesel,.does not matter where you are.
Engine emission systems, yes, they are different
In North America, mainly Canada, Alaska maybe there are still a few spots like this, In Europe maybe if you go towards the arctic circle, but in general in US, Europe you are rarely more than a 40 miles off of some kind of civilisation.
If you talk about overlanding as very long distances crossing many different countries, taking many months if not years, it is a different ball game than camping wild, most likely 30-50 miles maximum from a gas station or supermarket, with the ability to run a fridge and maybe...
Low sulfur diesel is sold even across Africa, is not an issue. if the marine diesel now is low suphur, most refineries in the world make it.
I know someone who crossed Africa on the west route from Morocco to South Africa in a new 2018 Toyota Hilux Euro 6 2.4D diesel engine . The...
Take a look at an aluminium canopy, most are designed to take loads.
When I looked for a canopy for my Hilux, that was the main criteria. Mine is tested for 2500 kg static load on the roof ( 5511 LBS ), which is ridiculous, the truck can't take only 980 kg on the back.. :)
I am not...
Autohome makes them. They have a lightweight version of the normal Columbus tent, which is a V shape normal hardshell. In europe they are about 6k euro if I am not mistaken, about double of a normal columbus.
It is an italian company, they make RTT's since the 50' good quality stuff...
Over the last week-end I started to install the rocks liders. What a PITA that was to fit, and with no elevator.
On the driver side the fuel tank goes in the way of the middle bracket. it is s impossible to do with no elevator and at minimum taking our the fuel tank shield and maybe the...
Don't know a lot about shocks on US vehicles. On european SUV's and pickups vehicles the stock ones are pretty good, did not notice big issues with fading so far. But the vehicles also tend to be much more expensive than US and at least the pick ups are completely different, the GVM is...
True. There are some combination on vehicles that by experience work very well. For example for a Landcruiser Prado 120 ( the Lexus GS470 in US ) some Koni heavy duty work really well. But same shocks on a Tacoma might be crap.
Truth to be told, unless you go over GVM and not...
It is more time related than miles.
Most manufacturers recommend every 2 - 3 years. Some just test it from time to time ( there are some strips you can use ) and change it when appropriate.
I use the one in the bottom of your picture. It is the closest thing to an espresso with no expresso machine. I like it, is easy, fast and practical, light, does not take a lot of room.
I ordered some rock sliders from Rival, not sure why they are so expensive for Hilux, Front Runner use to make them as well, more reasonable priced but I spoke with a guy there, they had complaints about the fitting, it was complicated and they stop selling them , they are working on...
Had a Landcruiser prado automatic, with low range. It works fine even with automatic gearboxes if you have low range. My current rig is a Toyota Hilux, also automatic, with low range. No issues so far.
That kind of abuse no upgrade will help.
I had break fading on an subaru forester, but I was overloaded , automatic with no low range. I was at very low speed, I stopped completely, waited 20 min for the breaks to cool off and went on again.
if you have low range, should be used always downhill.
Suspension is the last thing you do, after you have everything else is dialed in.
After you start going out a bit you will determine wath is a "must have" and "nice to have " for example - must have recovery points - nice to have a warm shower
Consider the weight of everything. Lets say...
Got a cheap amazon. tailgate easy down assist kit. I was more interested on the fittings, the strut will probably go bust in a few months, but I can replace that with a quality one easy.
A bracket and some bolts + a shock in a good kit its like 110 Euro , a good shock only is...
