Of course it is nice to take the back roads and a slow pace. But not all people have like 60 days paid leave per year or afford to take 3 months trips. So If the place I want to visit is far I will drive like crazy, if I have access to a good highway network until the spot the...
Got my dream vehicle, a Hilux pick-up. . The issue now is a suitable light pop up camper and onboard systems.
So at the moment I have a buschtech canopy, a aux battery, fridge, solar and a couple of swags. So cold wheather I don't do so well.
At least in Europe most campers on the market...
My wife was reading this thread and the trip to IRAN does not sound so crazy anymore, looks like it is much safer than US. I just have to be careful she does not come out from tent in a mini skirt or something like that and we are good.. :)
Actually there the highest risk is related...
many injuries happen in driveways, you will usually injure a close family member, or your dog, etc. If you have a vehicle with poor visibility in back, like most pick ups or even classic 4x4 when packed full I would go for back-up camera.
I am sure all of you are super drivers and...
a small bottle of break fluid, needs to be sealed, if it was opened it is worthless.
1 l of engine oil, 1 L of ATF that can be used in a pinch for steering pump, the autogearbox and even diffs..
Got a set of AT tires and rims. The plan was to get 5 complete wheels, like this I can do a 5 tires rotation, they will last longer, the spare will always be checked and used like this.. no surprises with a spare that was not checked in years, it will be identical with the other wheels, all...
If you want to register the car in Europe than it usually needs some modifications. But if it is just a temporary import it is no issue.. The only requirement is for Right hand vehicles to have the lights tuned so you don't blind the others, usually it solved with some stickers applied to the...
I do the same. Even now I have plenty of space in the back when I go on trips but for me is like this :
why fill it with crap ? just because is there ? Every bit of weight leads to poor performance on and off road and poor fuel economy, which is important for me.
I do long...
Engel fridges, those will still be alive when you are dust, one you buy them you can mention them in your will :)
Expensive new though and impossible to find used.
You say you already overland your truck. You had some issues so far with this tire size that makes you need bigger ?
I am just curious, but if you did not had problems why do it ? I would save the money for something else.
Nothing is stopping you to have both. A CB is not that expensive, there are small antenna designs, and it is used all over the world. For convoy work is good enough and for long distance travel is useful because you get warnings about speed traps and other issues that you might have on...
I am still waiting for some proposals to the exact location, I moved in the area recently and the only place I know is workable but not great ( a huge parking, who can take a significant number of rigs, in Grevanmacher, next to a supermarket and a coffee shop )
got the same, some anti theft M10 nuts . You put it after the original nut, like this you can tight them stronger, since the torque to keep the tent on without damage to the rails is very weak .
People are doing the canning stock route .. the longest off road trail ever in the world, and with some difficult bits in a Forester with little modification, usually a small 2 inch lift to compensate for the load .
Most subaru's even the old ones are very flat so no surprises there...
Or get a foldable one. They pack like slim suitcase and come with a protective cover. For transport you would want a protective cover anyway, either it is foldable or not. So if you get the foldable type you solve booth issues, storage and protection.
True.
My advice is test first. Maybe the AGM will be enough. If it does not hold, a small solar panel usually does the job. With the solar, if you get a portable one, not the fixed unit on the roof, I think is better. You can keep the car in the shade and the panel in optimum position...
I got a 35L Snomaster and I have a 105 AH AGM. 35l I think is more or less the same in US quarts.. about 37 quarts. In normal use, even on a very hot day it should draw no more than 2 amp/h ( I am talking average with the on off thing ) Mine is a travel version so the insulation is not...
I was looking at a new set of tires to replace the stock ones, they are not that bad, they are AT but they are Bridgestone dueler AT, not the most aggressive thread...
So I decided to get full wheels, and the stock set to be used outside overloading season.
Initially, as rims I wanted to get...
bigger fridge might draw less depending on use. On camping I drink quite a lot of beer, but my fridge is small, I have room maybe for 6 beers only at least until I consume more of the food and make room. That means I grab a beer, put another warm one inside and so on. This does not...
