There are several routes. None with a road. Youd need serious rigs. Some crazy people with some serious knowhow. And weeks or months to blow a trail through. But it is totally do able. I got a one ton rig, a 15k winch, welders, tools, saws. You can count me in for that expedition.
@Billiebob i store my winch in my tool box and fabbed up receiver hitches and electrical quick connects. So i can pull off the front or back bumper with my 15k winch. Works great. I love having it on the back for uncharted water crossings. Great insurance.
Trying to gauge whos actively overlanding in SWBC and on this forum regularly. From the lower mainland to pemberton. Hope to kamloops and kamloops to lillooet. In that area. Id like to get a group of people out adventuring on a regular basis. All skill levels and vehicles welcome. Sound off if...
I lived in a 30 foot sail boat on the west coast of canada for years. Ran a wood heater. That was cool. But ive also done a far bit of winter camping. A chainsaw and big fires are the key to a good time in the winter.
Ive got some really nice knives that ive bought and made. But my go to thats always on my belt. $20 Mora Companion HD. They hold an edge, they take a beating and they throw pretty well.
I dont remember what its called but you take the rope, do three loops arpund your hand. Then you alternate weaving the outside loops underneath and to the center three times. What youre left with is a bowline with a loop. I use them all the time and they work on any size of cord or rope. Great...
If you dont like working on vehicals. Get something new. Doesnt really matter what. If you do like doing youre own work get something old. Parts are cheaper. And youre doing all the work anyhow. So it doesnt need to be in top shape.
Some things i look for in my vehicals:
-good stock ground...
Ive never towed a trailer. I can fit what i need in the rig. But i often thought about building a shop trailer for long trips. A small trailer with my 5k genset, welder, lathe, milling machine and tools.
I run a Warn 15k. Worked fine for me for years. When i build bumpers for my rigs i fab in reciever hitchs front and rear. And wire in weatherproof quick connects. That way i can store my winch in the tool box out of the weather. Then decide if i want to front mount it or rear mount it. Depending...
You guys make some really great points. Feeling even better about making the switch to a one ton. For what i like to do, it seems ive made a good choice.
Every vehical comes with an axle jack. If you find yourself with a wheel stuck in a hole. You can jack it up and drive off the jack. Or fill the hole with rocks. Or slide a traction board under it. A comealong can be tedious if youre by yourself. You might end up running back and forth.
I carry a Stihl MS 361 with a 24" bar when im on the trail. We get trees across the road all the time in BC. Usually suspended off the ground on some one lane wide backcountry trail. Typically i just buck the high side and then the low side and drive over it if its small enough. Otherwise ill do...
Most gates in my area have locks that are recessed and cant be accessed by cutters. But having been a firefighter I always carry cutters, axe, halligan. None are particularly useful for recessed locks. But there are two proven options. The first is take a piece of cable and unwind it. Then...
All work and no play makes Apoc something something....
Been a long week. Not getting out this weekend. But i will be throwing new parts on the truck all weekend, which is just as good.
Someone send a piston in to orbit for me this weekend. Lolz
