I've slept under my redneck awning many a times but wouldn't bother during bad weather for the reasons mentioned above. My go to spot to sleep is inside the Jeep using it as a big tent but with a family of 4 that's difficult unless the kids are pretty small.

Interesting. I've been doing this with Ramen noodles for a long time. Makes a good filler lol.
I've stayed on the National Grasslands (Caddo and LBJ) a few times, they fall under the Forrest Service. Nothing super impressive but it's close by. I'll have to check out WIlliams Ranch next time I'm out that way. THanks :)
Always go with a name brand Class 10 card. That cuts down on a lot of SD memory issues. Prices are so low on SD cards there's no reason to try to go with a knock off no name unit.
I've had a few Lenovo computers. They work fine for what they are. They don't have all the bells and whistles...
Just remember the radio wave doesn't originate from the top of the antenna, it radiates out from the entire length of the antenna so increasing the length of the antenna doesn't necessarily mean you're raising the height of the radio wave.
Lower center of gravity, less stress on the drive-train and suspension, lighter weight. If I do get stuck I'm easier to recover.
Everything has trade offs. I'm not out wheeling hardcore OHV parks and rock crawling and whatnot. Anymore the hardest stuff I do is washed out unmaintained...
Antenna height is always king but the base of your antenna is still low on the cowling. You probably won't see any significant performance difference between a 30 inch whip or a 6 inch whip in that location other than the change of radiation pattern seen in the graphic. You'll probably be...
BAM BAM the Jeep looks mostly stock but has a lot of stuff "under the hood" including a modern FI Chevy V6, tougher axles, e lockers, stuff like that.
Good article over it from about 4 years ago. Still an awesome Jeep. I would love to find a CJ2 or MB Jeep for a project Jeep and go with a...
Before you start dropping high gain antennas on there keep this graphin in mind. Different tools for each job. Applies to antennas as well. If you have a lot of rolling land around or are talking over larger elevation changes a 6db antenna might not be the best bet. Keeping more than one...
Not that high. Haha. Put a few people in it and a little gear and you're bumping the GVWR already. Nearly every whiz bang overlanding Jeep out there with everything and the kitchen sink onboard is probably well over GVWR. Then they wonder why they're breaking suspension components on...
First question. What do the people you go out with have? If they all have one service and you install another that doesn't do you a whole lot of good.
Another options is to run multiple radios. I run a HAM, GMRS and CB. The place where I have my CB installed is setup to be able to...
Might be a good question for the specific manufacturer of the one you want to get. According to Koolatron you can put ice in it in an enclosed container but not loose as it will damage the unit if water sloshes up into the fan assembly. But they sell coolers not fridge/freezers...

MYGMRS carries them as an authorized Midland dealer. Not sure what shipping would be like to Canada though.
Well best bet is a NMO hole though the roof, which would give you the best ground plane possible as well. Next time I have to remove the headliner I plan on punching the roof for an NMO mount but I'm in no hurry.
Mine are mounted on my fenders. I have 2 NMO "L" brackets, one on each side. I...
I use a Kelty Noah's Tarp. Packs verysmall, lightweight and all that jazz.
I also use this setup but not all the time. It's attached to the Jeep on one side and I use bungiees to keep it rolled up. Detach bungiess roll out and use some Kelty Tarp Poles on the end. Works fairly well as...
