    Orienteering by hand?

Funny how everyone expects the North Star to be this bright shining light, when in reality, Polaris has a magnitude hovering around 2.

    Orienteering by hand?

Always a good skill. I am no expert but my father first started showing me. Then I used the army infantry manual. Then sort of on my own of youtube. Maybe I should hit an REI or state park course. You always pick something up. As for the compass? I bought a Silva Ranger Type 15 CL back in the...

Can it GET any more old-school than that?!?! Love it!

Where. The hell. Is that? I want to go there.

What is your preferred shelter? (Rooftop Tent vs Ground Tent vs Etc...)

Looks like a nice small travel trailer. I may have to look for something like that.

What is your preferred shelter? (Rooftop Tent vs Ground Tent vs Etc...)

First three sentences here are same for me. Except, kind of like in the picture, I have a cap on the bed of my truck (which is still attached, not being used as a trailer). So, when camping I am either in a ground tent or in the covered bed of the truck. These days theres an air mattress either way.

    Trail Security

Yeah, it's called finding common ground and making casual conversation. And a lot of the stuff we talked about - like not wearing your expensive watches and jewelry and being alert and situational awareness - will translate when out on a trail or at a big meet up somewhere or stopping into a...

    Trail Security

Yes, sir. This is all to my point. If there's bad looking dudes doing bad looking things on a doorstep down the sidewalk, why not cross the street and continue on your way, instead of walking right through the huddle? Be aware. Walk with a purpose. By the way, in close quarters, it's easier to...

    Trail Security

Ok. Fair enough. I'm very much like you, so by no means is any of this an attack, it's more a "what if you cant" scenario. I dont carry that often anymore, but have no aversion whatsoever. I also agree, I like to vote with my wallet. Mom & pop local shops first, Amazon type commerce as a last...

    Trail Security

Well, I've got an aversion to NYC myself, and just like not wanting to park my truck in the city, I prefer to find a nice restaurant in the suburbs with parking. So, the firearm issue can be the same - avoid places I cant park my truck, avoid places I cannot carry a pistol. Ok, but you are not...

    Let's Talk Cast Iron

Cast iron being pretty tough, I dont think they would be injured much from a few scratches. However, I would think that a strip of cardboard a little wider than the pan, placed between each pan as you stack them, would be a huge help. Then store then in your pelican or any plastic storage with a...

    Trail Security

Yes, I agree. The two legged variety are more duplicitous, AND can use tools. However, my post still stands, respectfully. Since you bring up the concrete jungles...The general public walking through Central Park in NYC (just as an example) are not allowed to carry firearms. If we look at the...

    Trail Security

My father was in VietNam, so, when I was a kid, he talked about preparedness and personal defense all the time. Self defense, the K.i.s.s. doctrine, as well as the "better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it" philosophy. Just to be clear, I do subscribe to and try to...

    K5 Blazer Overland Rig

Yep. I know I can find them. But not for the 2 grand I paid back in 06. I kick myself for letting my two go as well, but space was at a premium and I thought I'd just get another someday. The good news is, while that body style 2 door Blazer was made fro. 1992 to 1994, it lived on as the 2...

    2006 GMC Sierra aka “granopy”

Go figure. Ok. So they all sort of dont quite fit?

    2006 GMC Sierra aka “granopy”

I'm not sure but it looks like that portion bar might be a little thin to fit into that socket in the lower arms, there. I might ne wrong. Second from last picture. Can anyone confirm? I'm no expert

    K5 Blazer Overland Rig

I F#&KIN WISH! Had both a 1993 and a 1994 full size, GMT400- based Chevy 2 door Blazer k1500. More modern K5, without removable roof. Excellent vehicle and I've always thought they were perfect for camping, hiking trips (overland if you want) because of the wheelbase being shorter than today's...
