    Water for extended travel

On anything longer than an overnighter I put the Front Runner footwell water tank in the XJ. It's 11 gallons. More than I've ever used before, either hitting civilization for gas or coming across a water source I could filter if I really needed to.

    Garmin TREAD

So do I. It's never been an issue. Nearly every smart device takes a SD memory card most measured in hundreds of gigabytes. I can load multiple states worth of maps if I need to. If you can drive across multiple states and never see a cell signal.........you probably don't have a cell phone...

What else do you use your GMRS for? How handy are they?

Meh. I've never been impressed with Midland handhelds. There are cheaper more capable options out there, that are probably just as or more tough. Midland doesn't even have a GMRS handheld that can be used on repeaters.

    $35 Amateur/GMRS radio fees

    But, but, but, it's 7 whole dollars a year...........about to 3.50 a year...........that's soooooo expensive.

    $35 Amateur/GMRS radio fees

It has its advantages. We have a repeater locally that covers 40 or 50 mile radius. Its quite useful. Even before the fee change you're talking about 7 dollars a year. Just a WAG but I'm guessing you waste a lot more than 7 dollars a year on crap far more useless than a GMRS license.

    Garmin TREAD

I've got a long history of Garmin use via motorcycle GPS units. Hassle free is not how I would describe them. Especially when it comes to updates and their basecamp software. And 1300 dollars is a lot of gas, and would buy you a lot of smart phones or tablets.

What else do you use your GMRS for? How handy are they?

I'll also add I've been a HAM a little longer than a GMRS user and found that at least around here I use GMRS a lot more often than I do HAM anymore.

What else do you use your GMRS for? How handy are they?

I use them around the house, on trips, for group runs (I have a bunch of handout radios), ect ect. We have a local repeater that covers our whole county and parts of neighboring counties. You won't see too much extra range vs a FRS radio when using handhelds. The biggest advantage is the...

    CO2 Bottle

This is the disadvantage of buying the tanks like Powertank. I can't exchange those most times but I can take a CO2 bottle I got from a welding supply store and exchange it or fill it depending on the circumstances.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

The first serious progress on the 2A in a month. Also found another Ford stamp. This one on the steering linkage.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Got the CJ2's rear axle put back together. Will put it under the frame tomorrow morning and I'll have a rolling chassis again :) Feel like I'm getting back in the groove on that. I hit a similar wall with the CJ5 where I didn't work on it for like a month or made very little progress.

    Best starter GMRS radio?

I've got the HAM versions of the following radios. Both work great and the 25 watt model is pretty compact. QYT GS800G GMRS Mobile Radio GMRS Channels 8 Repeater Dual Band Receiver Walkie Talkie Long Range Two-Way Radios with NOAA Weather https://baofengtech.com/product/gmrs-50x1/

    Best starter GMRS radio?

Most of their mobiles except for the 5 watt mobile can. None of the handhelds can. The Midlands get the job done but there are tons of others out there now flooding the market that are more feature rich. Wouxun Btech Retevis I'd personally steer clear of Rugged Radios, they way overprice...

Boatloads of them out there. This isn't even all of them, not by a long shot. National Forests and BLM lands, some of the best camping around.
