To lift or not to lift….old suburban

That's not to discount anything BillieBob said. Hes not incorrect about anything he's said. I just disagree, given the equipment options you have and the age of the vehicle. Theres a GMC Suburban GMT 400 in a town near my, parked in the driveway in front of the garage of a nice house on a small...

Good to know about the Grabbers. I'm looking at Falken Wilpeaks or, beleive it or not, Yokohama Geolandar AT. Both 3PMS

Shut 'or down? Really? Let me know when you become a Mod. Theres more to overlanding than weather, routes and trucks. Theres land management. Theres fuel. Theres power. Theres vehicles. All of which are regulated in some way. And when a regulation sucks for overlanders, this should be the forum...

    Thread Shutdowns

Why would you lock the thread instead of taking the offenders out of the loop? And screw the rest of us from having civil discussions about regulations, which ARE handed down by politicians, whether we like it or not. I agree. The discussions should remain civil. However, it IS possible for...

    Thread Shutdowns

Right? Look, I get that we dont want to get too political, or attack anyone, but when a particular political group is looking to ban something that a lot of overlanders use, then it seems likely that opinions about that political group will be aired. Overlanding = vehicles, fuel, land, and...

To lift or not to lift….old suburban

Big fan of the GMT 400 platform. Love that Suburban. I've had two of the 2-door big Blazers from that platform. I disagree about the lift. The truck is old to the point it could probably use revitalizing underneath, so why not do a mild upgrade while you are there. A mild, 2 inch lift can go a...

    New regulations expanding

The subject line is not "generator bans." It is about the expansion of regulations in general. Part of that means opinions will be divided, and along what lines, and why, and what could be done about it. Threads routinely get off track. Is anyone swearing or name calling?

    New regulations expanding

The textile mill City of Lowell, Mass used to be part of the farming community of Dracut Mass (Settled 1701). They split during the Industrial Revolution when the farming community realized they no longer had goals in common with that part of town along the river which had become industrial...

    New regulations expanding

If I am not mistaken, lithium is mined one of two ways. Strip mining, or... Pumping water into the ground until the lithium is pushed up close enough to the surface in batches large enough for collection. Lithium = good. Do the same method for oil and it's called evil fracking

Ha ha. Not that we are much better here in Mass, but I'm always considering a move. There are great doctors in other states, and there are airplanes for visiting. Or make an Overlanding trip for visits.

    New regulations expanding

Something like 70 to 80% of US electricity is still generated with fossil fuel burning. When I camped at the Colorado Grasslands last May, we arrived in evening and all through the night noticed a line of red, pulsating light all along the horizon in nearly all directions. Come morning we saw...

    New regulations expanding

Wait - what?! The California vs generators post i started was shut down? Who shut it down? Last time I was in there, people were just lamenting this possibility and talking about options. What the h3ll happened to get it shut down?

A small piece of kit that gives huge piece of mind

Same. Never heard of them but they seem clever. Sometimes I opt for metal valve stems, and I have seen rims that really cup and protect the stem. But this is smart

    No more generators in California?

It's not just solar or not. Some people just use them in bad weather when the power goes out. If you aren't fully charged by then, you've a hard time charging during the blizzard.

    No more generators in California?

Sorry if this has been disc, I havent seen it... California is looking to ban the sale of small engines. Maybe it started as a way to curb use of gas leaf blowers and weed whackers but could affect your RV / Overland gas generators as well...

    Western expedition in a 2wd

Take a look at some of the most often broken or expired, consumable parts, and bring backups. Like a set of belts, or maybe a starter. That type of thing. Dont go overboard. But a little prepared

Anybody’s rig a pickup rv and towing a jeep

You dont mention a year for the F150. A typical 2010 2wd has a cargo capacity of about 1800 lbs. Coming anywhere near that while towing a Jeep on a flatbed, or even flat towing, would not be recommended

    Western expedition in a 2wd

5lugger, My nephew is in the Army down in Georgia. I checked out some trucks with his dad and settled on a single cab, 2wd older Toyota Tacoma. He loves it. Single cab so he doesnt have to bring friends along. He reports the 2wd has been doing him just fine in GA. Off the bat, I didn't really...
