Don’t forget you can use store and forward on satalites as well, that way you only have to wait apx 10 minutes between transmissions

    Suspension & Lockers

That’s really neat. Right now it’s snowing pretty hard in Northeastern Oregon. La Grande is about 250 miles east of Portland. We are located less than 100 miles as the crow flies from Idaho and about 80 miles from Washington. It’s crazy how the weather here is so different than those just a...

    Suspension & Lockers

Does that mean you guys don’t get very much snow during the winters?

    Suspension & Lockers

We have a lot of Comms experts on the forums. Beings that you are in Alaska I would strongly recommend getting your General license so you have access to the HF bands. It’s also a great hobby for your long winters. Both Icon and OME make great suspensions. I am going with OME on our 4Runner...

    Suspension & Lockers

You won’t run into the problems with freezing down in NC. Your winters don’t get cold enough, read you don’t get sub freezing temps for months on end. Nice to know E-Lockers were offered On The 80 series. Did the 80 series use the same axles as the FZJ?

    Ham radio????

I also strongly recommend HamStudy.com along with Ham Radio Crash Course and Ham Radio 2.0. Ham Radio 2.0 has an awesome corse for taking the tech and general exams. How to Get your Technicians License in 5 days The first step is to apply (don’t know why the FCC uses that wordage when you...

    Suspension & Lockers

I strongly advise against ARB Air Lockers in Alaska. They are prone to freezing in extreme cold. The extreme weather hold the lockers useless with out adding an air drier and upgrading the lines. Your plan on using E-Lockers is very solid. Toyota makes factory e-lockers for the 4Runners, I’m...

Overlanding with a family of 6

I would recommend a suburban, Yukon, Excursion, or a 4wd van for a family so large. As for trailer, lots of options available from a diy trailer to a commercially built trailer.

I have to change my transfer case

Glad to see you got your Jeep back up on the rad Robert. I really like your ramp idea... wish I would have built a set for my Bronco before I tore it all a part

    How to ...?

I highly suggest you call into Sunday’s Northwest Conference Call. We have a monthly conference call every Third Sunday of the month at 7:30 Pacific Time hosted by @Sandpoint Steve . The call is a place where seasoned overlanders help share their knowledge with those that are just starting out...
