I was thinking of mounting the Tarheel inside my Bronco with the whip sticking out the side… if a EFHW works as an inverted L, why wouldn’t a screwdriver?

You can get a Yasue FT65R for $89.00 and do the MARS cap mod and have the Large Fry. Let’s discuss the radios you are looking at… I’m familiar with all of them (meaning I have hands on real life experience), so each one has its pluses and minuses. The Kenwood 710 is a good overland Coms...

Why spend money on a junky radio… spending money on a Baofeng is like handing out an extra $40.00 at McDonalds for a small fry. Buy a cheap name brand radio that meets FCC standards for a few dollars more.

@Line guru , see what I told you in my last reply in our private conversation @GreyMatter confirmed it again. Don’t try to understand all of the information. As you use the radio service you will learn what you need to learn. One thing I have learned in the Ham Community is that every one...

New subforum suggestion - Overlanding electronics and power

Power is generally discussed mostly under the Overlanding Gear/ DIY projects… https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/forums/overland-do-it-yourself-projects/ But yes I agree there should be a Power Distribution forum, or at least electronic forum

Looking at the Breedlove Mounts… wow they are spendy. They look pretty, but they are no better than what I already came up with for mounts… in fact I think my custom 1/4 panel mounts are better than his… I used 8” X 8” X 1/8” steel plate welded to the inside of the rear quarter panel.

I have the larger 65l, no noise… a 220aH battery lasts me 24 hours set at -8 degrees on regulat power… I can get 72 hours at 45 degrees in economy setting.

Wilderness Sked - Ham from camp with others in your area via NVIS

Correct…. The QTH problem is below 7.2 I have so much RFI the band is useless to me. Also it doesn’t help that I have an AM broadcast station 1/4 mile from my QTH that is producing severe sparious emissions (we in the area have put in numerous complaints and nothing has been done except to be...

    Mobile HF questions

I’m looking at the Breedlove mounts now. I will not be using my trailer hitch as a mounting point… unless I make a separate 2” receiver that won’t interfere with towing. If you’re telling me to leave the screwdriver antenna at home when I head to the woods and use hamsticks, that won’t work…...
