Welcome from Asheville! Thank you for your service. I'm excited to see your build, I just did a lift and wheels and tires on a 19 Trail Boss last week,
Just a little clarification on this, non-interference engines will not bend valves without a foreign object because of a broken or slipped timing belt because the pistons and valves can be fully extended in their stroke and not interfere with each other, meaning there will be no contact...
This is a good point, though this model has two timing covers. The left side timing cover should have a small handful of 10MM bolts holding it on though they may be difficult to get to.
If you get this timing cover off you may be able to see if the belt is broken or feel how much tension it...
Based on what I can hear and see in the video it looks like the crankshaft is still spinning properly but there is no resistance in the sound. I would be looking for compression issues. Has the timing belt been replaced recently? How many miles are on the car? Subaru's are picky about having...
Update 20191020
Started Thursday night after work with a couple parts that I got in early, figured if I got a head start it would make my Friday night easier. I'm not great at remembering to take action pictures when I'm working but I did manage to recover a few pictures I sent to a friend...
Moved from the first post!
Parked next to Dads 99 K1500 Suburban 5.7, which is the truck I learned to drive in, and has since been passed on to my brother as Dad upgraded to an 03 C2500 Suburban.
Couldn't believe how well this body cleans up and how straight it is!
One of the main reasons I...
Huge kudos to you for taking care of pops truck like this! Obviously the rig already has an incredible history but I'm super excited to see the development of the rebuild and also to see it running around again with the generations in tow!
Keep up the fantastic work!
The driveshaft loops are pretty common in racecars, mandated by many sanctioning bodies. This Example is for a car, but you can see the concept. This stops the driveshaft from destroying everything around it in the event that it breaks, limiting damage and injury from the thrashing shaft.
Hello all!
It's been a while since I've been on here but I am working on a new build and trying to get back into the groove! I had been building a 95 4Runner and shared most of that process here, but a friend of mine decided that he just had to have it and for me the 4Runner seemed to be...
Awesome guys! I love seeing all the gear you keep and hearing about how you use certain things! I've been ridiculously busy lately so I haven't been shooting as much as I should, I hope to get back out there soon!
I rode Brown Mountain on bikes, but never in the truck. If my memory serves correctly there are only two short, open trails for trucks. Definitely hoping for some snow up here in Asheville!
Enjoy the snow!

I've got the Portable Buddy Heater, bought it anticipating cold temperatures on a few of our off-season camping trips. Used in temps as low as 6F inside the 8 man tent and it kept all 4 of us comfortably warm. We had the windows closed but the top of the tent is mesh under the rain fly, so even...
