Sometimes it just best to join the local metal detector club. They also buy plots and have secret places to go hunt and they know the laws of where it is legal to hunt.
Today, I just wrenched in new tie rods, cv axles, changed the transmission fluid, finished installing my transmission cooler with remote spin-on filter and temperature gauge, fuel filter, rotors and lower ball joints on my 4Runner at the base hobby/auto repair shop and it only cost me $40 to use...
I would say that it is private property and only open to those who have the codes/keys to the locks. Were there fresh tire tracks on both sides of the gate? With multiple locks then it must be parceled property with a main access point. When I used to work on AT&T cell towers we had multiple...
I do as much as possible with the tools and space that I have available to me. I can go onto a military base and use their auto shop to work on our vehicles. It's nice to pay $5hr to use a lift and borrow tools for free. I am so thankful that this option is offered on military bases.
Haha right now it is 106 degrees with 7% humidity. We have not even hit the hot stuff yet. Bloody noses & dry skin flaking off all the fun things about Phoenix.
Ronnie Dahl has a great video on what to bring along with you when going into the outback. Mostly, you need tools that fit your vehicle - SAE tools are worthless on a Toyota. Nowadays a code reader that can delete the check engine light is becoming a must have tool.
2 strokes are different and need to decarb due to the fact that they have oil mixed in with the gas. 4 strokes should only need to be cleaned if you see the gunk buildup on the intake. Any good carb cleaner should work to break down the sludge/gunk. Seafoam works great and can be either put into...
It is definitely a different type of terrain here in the southwest. The one thing that sucks here is the heat, starting yesterday we will be in the 100+ degree temps for a while and it won't stop until late August early September. Winter is the best time to travel over here.
I like the hard shell RTT's as they 1. do not suffer from the sun's rays as much as soft material, 2. they are also more compact in size when folded up, 3. you can carry items on top of them (bikes, kayaks, etc.), 4. less vulnerable to theft or vandalism by being lockable..
G-Wagen I looked an one in Ontario, Canada back in October. I was dropping off a Pinzgauer and picking up a Haflinger and the owner had a nice Puch/Steyr Gelandewagen. Wasn't too expensive either, of course I was in Canada so cool vehicles are easier to get up there.
Dave Pugh - I love the old school hubcaps on your Cruiser. I am really starting to look at purchasing an older than 80 series now, as they really do look good. Plus, I don't need all the electrical doodads that come on the newer models. Would love a manual transmission and crank windows.
Welcome, I am sure that you are going to love the Sportsmobile even if it is just 2wd. It should be okay for fire trails and if you change out the tires to a more aggressive All Terrain tread and add a limited slip or locker rear axle you will be able to go pretty far off the beaten path.
Snow states police looks for the snowflake or the $100+ snow chains for sure. Have you gotten a chance to see if they are better in snow? I am moving to Denver in 2 weeks and I want a good snow rated tire because I hate chains.
Recovery equipment is great to have and is actually a must have when off roading, but tires are essential to going off road. Tires will give you the confidence needed to go off road much like having 4 wheel drive gives you more confidence over a front wheel drive car does. Recovery equipment...
