Washington crowd sparse? Check out the Greater Seattle Area Virtual Campfire and the Tri-Cities clubhouse. Also several monthly meetups a crossed the state. There is a large OB presence all a crossed the state.
In May, most of the WABDR is still going to be snow locked. We had a large group run it from start to end at the end of June 2020 and not all of them were able to finish due to snow and mud. IIRC section 2 took them 2 days with the first day only able to make about 4 miles.

Yes… you are right… but he also mentioned Ham which I assume is 2m. So needs a dual band which generally is about 38” long for a 1/2 wave on 2m, with a trap at 12”
No call letters means your license isn’t processed yet. It takes 1-7 business days to get it. I am an online VE for amateur radio licensing. We aren’t seeing any call signs come back for tests we administer on Friday Nights, weekends, or federal holidays, they are always available first thing...
First a 1/4 wave CB antenna is 102” a 1/2 wave GMRS antenna is apx 14”. So the CB antenna won’t work for GMRS (or vice versa).
GMRS, Amateur Radio, and CB all use the same coax, so nothing special needed there. You could get a NMO antenna mount to run several different antennas from one...
FCC stopped sending mail for licenses in July of 2022 (or there abouts)
@MOAK, if you have a call sign you are good to transmit. And as others have said, you probably won’t get into any trouble over the weekend…. As long as you have your call sign. I wouldn’t stress over it to much since...
He’s not wanting AM/FM radio via satellite… he wants a Navigation System built into the head unit that doesn’t rely on cell towers. Sirus/XM sat radio is not a nav system.
Joying makes an android based head unit that has an external SAT GPS Antenna. However I don’t know if it’s AM or not.

I need to do some research on this, because it is part certified for GMRS, BUT it still has a VFO (GMRS radios have to be channelized and can’t transmit out of frequency for the given Chanel), the UV5G can transmit on the VHF frequencies with or without the use of chirp. However, I did find it...
The thread title is “Baofeng GMRS Radio” Baofeng only makes one FCC compliment GMRS radio, the UV9G. Even though the rest are able to transmit and receive GMRS, they aren’t actually type certified for GMRS use, and their RF emissions are outside the allotted emissions for GMRS use. So yes this...
