Looks great! But $17,000........ The price they get for these trailers is blowing me away. I need to start a new business!
Good luck with it. It looks like it will serve you well.
Well I loaded up all the gear I intend to take with me to see what the trailer weighs loaded.
Smithybilt RTT
45L 12V refrigerator
Kitchen box
two 5g water jerry cans
portable toilet
propane shower water heater
pop up shower tent
Portable solar panels
Total weight was just over 1200 pounds!
I'm...
If I had more room in my trailer, I know I'd just bring more useless junk that I don't need. Trying to keep[ the weight at 1000# I'm glad I made it small. My 4' X 5' X 24" box, with a 125# RTT and 15 gal of water weighs in at 1125#.......I'm shocked it weighs so much.
You might not believe this, but 0000 steel wool works amazing and , NO, it won't scratch your glass.
Simply turn on the window washer to wet the glass and have at it with 0000 steel wool. You won't believe the improvement.
I built an overland trailer. Finished it last week. Yesterday I pulled out all my gear to see how it fits....It doesn't! The trailer is only 4' X 5' with 24" high sides.
I could fit everything but a third 5g water jerry can and my 20# propane tank.
When I tow the trailer with the truck this...
I've built over two dozen trailers over the years. From simple utility trailers to drop deck equipment hauling trailers. I have great fun building things out of metal!
When building a trailer from scratch, obviously welding and knowing how to weld well is paramount. I follow lots of DIY trailer...
You m might want to consider building your own portable battery. I just built this one for use with my RTT camping trailer. It will be recharged with 120W folding solar panel or a RENOGY DC to DC charger off the tow vehicles alternator while traveling.
Here is the battery article I wrote
12V...
I have 420 watts on the roof of my trailer. And a 120w portable folding panel. Many, many times, my portable panel, angled to the sun greatly outperforms the roof panels. There is nothing like having the panels angled to the sun with no shade obstructing the sun.
I use this one
AcuRite 00424CA Digital Thermometer with Indoor/Outdoor Temperature
$19.95
To me it is invaluable to be able to monitor what is going on in my refrigerator from the dashboard when I'm driving for hours on end.
Too much valuable food to waste because the cigarette lighter cord...
Got the RTT mounted up this morning. Attached a couple aluminum angle as a guide. Makes loading and unloading a breeze!

Currently I'm driving a Toyota Venza V6. This thing is a rocket with 265 HP! I get 25mpg towing a low overlanding trailer that total weighs 1000#.
Non towing I get 27mpg. But if I drive it like Al Unser, well then........
My good friend has the exact same Toyota Venza but with a 4 cyl. Terrible...
IN-LINE 6 cylinder, four cycle engines are inherently stable. Smoothest running engines only bested by a V or flat 12. They simply don't beat themselves to death like a V engine does.
This is the reason the old Chrysler "slant 6" was so long lived. And the old Chevy straight six which was used...
Looking to purchase a used Subaru. There is a bewildering number of models and options available. Looking to keep it under $20K
Not a hard core off roader. Muddy forest roads would be biggest challenge
Towing a 1000# camping trailer and wanting at least 25mpg while towing and more when not...
I'm in the same place. Looking for something to pull a small overlanding trailer, have 4wd,and get at least 25mpg. I amazed at how many used vehicles have well over 150k miles.
Looking forward to your journey. I'm also thinking about getting a Subaru something for when I don't need the big Ram 2500. I hear nothing but good things about these cars.
