Get at least one pair of traction boards, like Maxtrax or Traction Jack. They're are super effective and don't require steel bumpers or sliders to work with things like winches or Hi-Lift Jack points. Carry a military style tri-fold shovel too.
Check out the Tom Harrison DV map. He has many others, including one for the Mojave Road.
I did a 10 day trip to DV in 2013. Started in Gold Point (outside the park) and ended up in the Dumont Dunes. We were able to stay at a lot of cabins, but they are first come, first serve. The general rule...
Both. I've actually had to use my AntiGravity jumper battery for the past few days until I could get the battery replaced today. It keeps me more self sufficient to use that, than having to find someone willing to help with a jump. In a parking lot, the other vehicle has to be on the correct...
Well I have 3" springs, 1" spacers run on 255/85/R16 (33") tires, and removed both the front an rear sway bars. So it leans a fair bit around the corners;) But, it's been setup like that for so long it's just normal to me now. It's a daily driver too!
Both reasons actually.
Plus, assuming you are still running the factory springs, they have probably sagged a bit after all these years. If you add 2" springs you'll probably go up a little higher because of that. Measure straight up from the center of the hub to the bottom of the fender at each...
@Sparky Haha, yeah my leg is doing a lot better. Thanks! It still has issues, mostly for strength, but I'm doing about a 3 mile walk everyday now. That includes a good 300' hill climb too.
Start with this book.
Were you running into road closures because of snow, or other reasons? Part of trip planning (even for a day) is checking for road closures, especially this time of year. What are you driving? I'm in SF too, and would be more than happy to meet up sometime and answer any...
How many cans do you take, how much fuel does you car hold, and how far are you traveling between fuel stops?
One trick I do to get more out of a tank is to use a can of Seafoam. Not only is it good to clean injectors, but I seem to get an extra 20 miles to a tank. I usually use a can at the...
I've not seen many bagged D2's here in the states so I can't offer how they handle offroad. Personally, I'd switch to coil springs in the rear and do a 2" OME lift all around. You'll still benefit from the extra clearance under the body, and allow you to fit a larger tire, which will in turn get...
A HAHAHAHA!!!! You'll never get it better than the day you drive it off the lot. Mods tend to add weight and wind resistance to the vehicle no matter what. Your best bet (if MPG is a big concern) is to start with the most efficient vehicle you can find and go from there. My D2 is now around 9-10...
Height makes that decision a little easier, but how tall is too tall when you have a muddy, 85 pound wheel and tire to lift? You can toss the spare off the roof, but be careful where it will land. Are you near a dropoff? Mr. Murphy (and his law) will take over and ensure you tire rolls down that...
Yesterday I performed major surgery on the D2. I replaced one of the windsheild washer jets on the hood. It was so intense, I didn't even remember to take a picture of the operation. HAHA!!!
